You must be an Alabama fan. You've got Tennessee on the brain this week.

Pathetic.

He was in the hospital have quadruple by pass surgery fighting for his life while Fulmer was talking with boosters for the job.

It was Emergency Quintuple By-Pass Surgery, and he returned to work 4 weeks after the procedure (typical recovery is 6-12 weeks). He had been hospitalized with chest pains in May of that year and had angioplasty (it was an emergency procedure when he fell ill while traveling to a coach's meeting in Texas. They turned around in Memphis and flew him back to Knoxville for that procedure).

For reference...Johnny's bypass procedure took 3.5 hours on August 25th. His first day back on the job was September 21st (27 days after the procedure, and 2 days after the win over Florida). He was actually in the hospital 10 of those days.

Johnny came back to a team that was 3-0 and had just beaten #14 Georgia in Athens and #4 Florida at home. Majors came back too soon, and subsequently lost to Arkansas (who would finish 3-7-1) at home by 1 point, Alabama at home by 7 points, and South Carolina (who would finish 5-6) by 1 point, in three straight games. If Tennessee had won any of those 3 games, they win the SEC East.

It was the win over Florida that prompted Majors to rush to get back to the team (which was too soon). He also had a meltdown (some now think it was a reaction to his heart medication and alcohol) at a the team hotel in Columbia in front of the School President and AD (along with some boosters) when they lost to South Carolina. Many think that was the final straw.

Majors wife has stated he rushed back to early because he knew Fulmer was stabbing him in the back. He was scared he would be replaced while sick. It was a bad choice but he trying to protect his job and Tennessee boosters screwed a sick man.

Yes, he believed something that wasn't true. His own behavior became his downfall.

It is fact Fulmer wanted his job at all cost and took advantage of a Tennessee legends near death to steal the job.

Fulmer is the biggest piece of trash in SEC history. Even Tennessee fired him twice

He just turned 75. He would be the oldest coach in FBS if he got a job...he would be:

2 years older than Belichick
5 years older than Ferentz

Because he turned in Mike dubose and Logan young? So what he was right they were cheating and buying players. Bear Bryant turned in plenty of programs most notably Auburn
