I say no. Sometimes it's the timing of the loss that keeps you out.

They'd still be in. Don't think a theoretical loss to UGA looks any worse than the "current" loss to LSU. Maybe have changed the computers a little (direction?) but not enough to change the outcome. It's almost the same 1 loss in the grand scheme of things.

The Return was the kicker, everything else now pales in comparison.

Maybe, but I'm not so sure. Timing of losses (LSU's miraculous luck in 2007 notwithstanding) is a pretty big deal, as they play a big part in the rankings. If they had beaten LSU, they'd work there way up to what, around 5th? by the UGA game. UGA was unranked at the time I believe and with 3 losses, so losing at home to UGA would've likely dropped them back to around 10th. A win over #1 bama, then missouri in the SECCG would move them right back up, but all the way to #2? I dont' know..

We would have been ranked no 3 going into the UGA game, the loss would have dropped us a few spots, but the Bama win and SECcg win would have put us back in the same position

we would have been undefeated with wins over top teams at the time, it would have been Bama, FSU, Auburn, Ohio state, Baylor. the week of the UGA game

More than a few IMO. The first game of the season we were ranked 5th and clemson 8th, and we dropped all the way back to 12th. And that was the first game of the year on the road.

#3 and undefeated AU losing at home to unranked UGA would have certainly dropped you back more than just a few spots. But yes, beating bama and missouri would move you right back up, but how far is the question. Kinda just depends on how far they would've dropped.

So why would MichState not be the #2 team after championship weekend assuming an AU loss to UGA?

thats because of the beginning of the season, the polls are starting to shape up, as opposed to the end of the season where for the most part its already shaped up except final placement.

would not have dropped us out of the top 10, more than likely would have been ranked 5-7 after the loss

I like these threads where Auburn fans fantasize about beating LSU. They are some of my favorites, but then again I'm a science fiction aficionado.

Because of the strength of the SEC, we would have been in the same situation. again beating two top 10 teams to close out the season. with a similar loss on the record

no, gotta think you go back to around 10. UGA was unranked and you were at home.

I call bullshite. LSU lost to Arkansas in the last week of the season for their SECOND loss and still got in
LSU was a strong #1, not 3rd at the time of the loss. Amazing series of other losses also occurred, and finally, there was the UGA matter- we leapfrogged them because we won the West and the SEC, and they didn't win the East. The Bama rule about not having to win the division doesn't apply to non-Bama teams.

Possible, but not definite. Auburn and Michigan St would have about the same resume, with wins over top teams and losses to decent but not great teams. The Mizzou win might be enough, but you's still hear the nation screaming about SEC favoritism.

behind 2 loss stanford and South Carolina and one loss baylor? no

quote:

3 Ohio State 11-0
4 Auburn 10-1
5 Missouri 10-1
6 Clemson 10-1
7 Oklahoma State 10-1
8 Stanford 9-2
9 Baylor 9-1
10 South Carolina 9-2

we would have been 7 at the worst, win over bama would have put us right back at 3 before the cg

Auburn and Michigan St would have about the same resume

no

That and everyone that wasn't being a homer knew that regardless of the slip ups, that LSU team was a mean group and by far the best team in the country when they came to play. People can say whatever they want about backing into the title game but we would've handled anyone they put in that game to face us.
