I'm ok with this but you have to kill the conference champion auto bid and/ or kill the conference championship game. Basically every conference championship game loser would be left out.
5 auto conference wins and 3 at largest doesn't leave much room.

3 teams should be enough. Big 10 winner, SEC winner and an at large.
There are only 2 power conferences left and the at large would go to any undefeated non P2 team worthy.

6 or 8 would be best. Go back to the old BCS method of picking teams.

That's going to be tough when a 12-1 team ends up being a 2 seed and getting a bye while a 13-0 team is a 3 seed and has to play an extra game

Imjuries have to be considered irrelevant and incidental to the game when playing 15, 16 or 17 games. Eliminating byes just adds one more game for 4 teams, either going from 15 to 16 games for a title, or from 16 to 17 games for a title.

I like the 12 if they’d make a few tweaks. No auto bids for the G5 and no auto bids for simply winning your conference. Reward teams for scheduling and beating big time opponents instead of simply avoiding losses by playing shite competition. If Florida goes 8-4 with their schedule this year I’d say they’d likely be deserving

So remove the ACC and big12 from Power conference status. Which honestly needs to happen anyway.

I agree no auto bids but the acc champion is 3-3 against the sec in natty games since the bcs started. Pac is 0-2 big 12 is 0-4 big ten is also 0-4 against the sec.

in 2004 maybe but not anymore. How many conference Title game rematches have end up different from the regular season matchup? The 2nd and 3rd best teams could be in the same conference as the best team. They should get a chance to rematch the conference champion.
The NFL has wildcards for this reason. Especially with 16 team conferences and strength of schedules in the same conference that line of thinking is outdated.
