Vandy defense is always bad. lone exception is last couple of years

Actually, Defense was not our problem as much during the Woody Widenhofer DC/HC years. Peyton in particular didn't much like them...

11/25/1995 at #5 Tennessee L, 7-12
11/30/1996 #9 Tennessee L, 7-14
11/29/1997 at #9 Tennessee L, 10-17

That 1997 team only gave up 219 points in 11 games, an average of 19.9...

I think Saban sent Sunseri up there to sabotage your football team.

Don't think we haven't thought about it.

Once again...I have no doubt '78 and '79 Vanderbilt were among the worst defenses in SEC history - maybe even the worst. I was simply arguing with your fellow LSU fan that Tennessee's defense was historically bad too. He said the '12 Volunteers defense was the '85 Bears in comparison. I simply pointed out he was an idiot if he actually thought that.

Any defense that gives up 300+ points in a college football season is bad. Any defense that gives up 400+ points is terribly - bordering on historically - bad.

Kentucky had a pretty awful defense this past year, but the offense is where we really suffered. Good God! Saturdays were painful in the fall.

As bad as our defense was these last couple seasons they still didn't have much on those Mike Archer defenses we used to have. There has to be at least one of those teams at the top of the TURBLE list.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Joeyb, but I think he pulls for Auburn. Add that to the list of things done incorrectly in this thread.

Wally Burnham's 1995 USC Gamecock defense

320 points surrendered in 8 SEC games

@UGa 42
@Ark 51

...in back-to-back weeks to start the season

UK 35
LSU 20
@MSU 39
Vandy 14
@UT 56
UF 63

Gamecocks beat MSU and Vandy - tied LSU - and lost the other 5 league games.

393 points given up in 11 games

I don't know all the numbers for sure but I swear ours last year was worst. I know we were last in the conference in several categories and possibly total D.

Same difference. You both have a Tiger for a mascot and you both play in a loud stadium.

2011 Auburn Tigers Defense

YPG: 408.0
Rush YPG: 189.23
Pass YPG: 218.8
PPG: 28.9

2012 Tennessee Volunteers Defense

YPG: 471.3
Rush YPG: 188.83
Pass YPG: 282.5
PPG: 35.7

'12 Tennessee is really a benchmark for the futility of defense in the 21st Century. Only 2010 Mississippi comes close to matching their PPG average (35.2) and the closest defense in the SEC to match them in total yards given up is 2007 Mississippi (just over 424 YPG).

This is using cfbstats.com, whose stats only go back to 2007.

Haven't read thread but our '12 defense is statistically the worst ever I believe.

We gave up 730 yards to Troy.
