How would he be able to get in even if he didnt know? Shouldn't he have to go to juco or prep school like every other kid that didn't make his grades?
There are numerous cases where the student is allowed to stay (would require a waiver) similar to the old partial qualifier. Depends how close it is.

Cliff Notes: Assuming Auburn left no DNA in Memphis and if JR can convince NCAA "he didn't know" then JR can get special eligibility waiver and redshirt. Some "if's" left to be seen but appears another bullet may have been dodged.
Now that's an interesting loophole. Crazy that a kid who isn't qualified can get in because someone cheated for him. Lucky kid, hopefully he takes advantage of the educational opportunity and doesn't screw around in school.

He needs to use the Cam Newton excuse--that "he didnt know" and he'll be straight.

Chapman at Alabama (very close, but questions) grade was changed by someone connected to Alabama, but found to be an HONEST mistake. Allowed to play. There have been others...

Report: Hoover grade change made Alabama signee eligible
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama football signee had a grade changed on his transcript and re-submitted to the university by counselors at Hoover High School, making him eligible, The Birmingham News reported.
The second transcript was sent after Alabama compliance officials called Hoover saying the player — whom the newspaper identified Wednesday as freshman defensive tackle Josh Chapman — was unexpectedly ineligible, according to the high school's former principal.

but it gets worse:
Retired federal judge Sam Pointer Jr. is investigating that and other allegations at Hoover for the school system. A teacher was also allegedly pressured to give a certain grade to lineman Kerry Murphy, an Alabama signee who is attending prep school after failing to qualify academically, The News reported.

Google for link, but
Syracuse DT Ryan Sloan is expected to be a top reserve this season despite having three high-school grades changed. He says he didn't know about the alterations.

I wish they would just come out and say he's going to Hargrave for a year. Be done with all this nonsense.

I would agree, but what is the hurry? This kid worked very hard to be eligible, so lets do what is best for him.
Key questions, how many grades where changed, WHEN was the change made, how close was he to qualifying without the grade change? Barry McKnight on Montgomery radio said the grade changed was from the 10th grade (he was adamant about that), but he is NOT sure when it was made.

I know that this is a little different from what happened to Alfy Hill. But he was already enrolled at Alabama in 2010, had passed 3 different summer classes, and was practicing with the team when he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. He had to leave Alabama.
In his case it wasn't grade changes, but he had taken a computer class that was offered to the entire school because he was hurt and couldn't take PE.
He ended up going to 3 different schools, and is now committed to enroll at South Carolina in 2013 if he passes.

Facts:
1)Someone informs NCAA about grade questions
2) GC at school resigns after admitting to submitting a false transcript
3) Auburn hold Jovon out of practice.
Much speculations, lies, rumor and innuendo...

Actually a football opportunity. Auburn is a tough academic place if you are a normal student. If he couldn't make it at inner city Memphis, his chances of any meaningful degree are slim at Auburn. On the other hand, kids can become focused, get tutor help, and learn study skills. Their odds are low but it can and has happened. Lottery's are won all over America every week.
Also, those Dr.'s who graduated last in their class are still called Dr.

Probable will and probable would have anyway....
BUT, this guy was ruled eligible for Syracuse...
he damning probe of Bellport HS found that district brass conspired to raise lineman Ryan Sloan’s grades on an official transcript. The investigation also accused district superintendent and legendary football coach Joe Cipp Jr. of doing nothing about the scheme.
“It is clear that Ryan Sloan’s grades were improperly changed at the direction of the administration,” said the investigation conducted by Bronwyn Black, an independent investigator and former Suffolk County assistant district attorney.
District superintendent and legendary football coach Joe Cipp Jr., current superintendent of human resources Nelson Briggs and buildings manager Greg Miglino.
The 58-page report — ordered by the district school board under community pressure — charges administrators with strong-arming teachers into boosting poor scores and silencing potential whistle-blowers through forced transfers out of Bellport HS.
“The records reviewed reflect that in 2010 grades were changed and increased from D’s to C’s to B’s in geometry, algebra, physical education and health,” the report states. “It is clear from the information gathered that the administration wanted Ryan Sloan to get certain grades to guarantee the NCAA scholarship and went through great lengths to make sure that happened.”
Editors Note: The NCAA cleared him to play, he did know...
Cipp - who makes $262,000 as district superintendent - is an iconic figure in Long Island high school sports after winning several state championships and sending dozens of players to Division 1 schools on scholarships.

The monkey wrench here, though, is that a counselor has admitted to fraudulent acts. That being said, it’s easier to find something in Lowes than it is to understand the NCAA’s decision making processes. And that’s saying something.

So 900 posts in, has it been decided that Auburn is fricked or is this ATPB 2.0 and nothing will come of this? Or is this only going to be an issue for Javon Robinson?
After what AU went through the last 2 years, I find it hard to believe somebody at AU would encourage a counselor to fake a transcript knowing how easily it can be uncovered.
Leaving a back pack full of cash in the woods is one thing, blatantly changing a transcript is another.

Wouldn't surprise me if this school routinely did this for a lot of athletes on the fence academically
