How did that turn out for you?

Pretty good.

Rose Bowl champ
Playoff win
And NCG appearance.
Finished #2 in the country.

Thanks for asking :)

I pointed that out before. What are the total numbers?

Do your own math.

I only know that UGA consistently beats Auburn (favorite, underdog... it doesn't matter)

Good luck this season.
I'm looking forward to seeing Auburn prevent Jacob Eason from pulling off another upset win. Don't let the conference down.

No, knowing that we beat the shite out of both of them made the loss in Atlanta acceptable.
Jesus man!
I can't believe this is still Auburn's mindset. Another 4 loss season but all is well because he beat the shite out of AU's 2 biggest rivals in the reg season, proceeded to lose the conference, a spot in the CFP, and his 4th bowl game to a G5 team in the NY6 bowl. I will never understand this mentality.

I expect Auburn 2018 to be very comparable to last year. and therefore thy will definitely have a chance to complete for the SEC. The defense should be every bit as good as last year, meaning it will be top 10 and keep Auburn in a most games regardless of offense. On the offensive side, I also see it being close to the same production as last year.

Auburn recruits at a championship level, and has more than enough talent on offense, especially paired with a top 10 defense. If you want to make the argument that oline and RB positions will take a step back, you have to take into account that Auburn will have a returning OC and QB, who should both be more comfortable in the offense in their second year. Plus the oline was pretty average last year, and that didn't prevent us from making the SEC championship game. I imagine Auburn will have some highs and lows during the season in typical Gus fashion, but QB talent and offensive weapons alone should give us enough offense in most games with Auburn's defenese.

The key, as it always is, will be November. Auburn can't win the West without beating Bama, and we can't backdoor into the playoff without being undefeated going into the Iron Bowl and probably getting a lucky break. A slip up at some point during the season prior to November is always a possibility under Gus, but I do expect Auburn to beat UGA this year and set up a winner take all Iron Bowl. Unfortunately that is a tough game to win on the road, but I think Auburn will very much be in the conversation at the end of the season.

The key to any program is to be in the conversation in late Nov. AU was in the conversation and in good position. The mindset of fan panic and running for the exits will be left to other programs. I wonder what the mindset of Bama fans would be like if Hurts played in the second half and UGA won ?

In all of these off season threads and all of the prior years' preseason threads... I have never once seen a fan say that the key to this season is to be relevant in November.

Thank god we have you to let us know what everyone is thinking but too afraid to share publicly.

State? We beat them by 39 points last year, why the turn around?

Next year State won't have 100 false start penalties because two freshman tackles were starting their first road SEC game in a hostile environment.

State got destroyed by Auburn and Georgia on the road because they were back to back games with a bunch of young players who weren't ready for the moment. They got better as the year went on.

Yet Gus' butt was on the hot seat for at least 2 yrs (2015-2016) and he saved it in 2017 with the UGA/UA wins.

I don't know what my mind set would've been if Saban hadn't made the half-time adjustments to both offense AND defense. I can see myself being pissed, just like AU fans get with Gus when he refuses to make adjustments, when he chooses to run the ball on 1st down 15 straight times, and is too stubborn to trust his coaches & players, etc.

But looking back, I guess can somewhat see the sense of happiness you feel about 2017. Gus didn't have his team in the discussion in late November in 2014 - 2015 - 2016, so he broke a trend in 2017 in a positive way. (I'd have still been pissed that he chalked up another bowl loss.)

I realize you are trolling but I think Auburn is due for a letdown this year. Just last year Gus was feeling a little heat under his chair before the season. Hey ended up having a big year and he parlayed those Gus to Arkansas rumors into a big fat contract. This year will be the inevitable course correction.

Gus had them in the Playoff polls top 4 in October in 14' and 17' and had them in position in 16'(#9) before the UGA Game. How many other coaches in the country can match that (3 of 4 years of the playoff) ? Add 13' when he had AU in the BCSCG and you can see my point.

Auburn's highest CFP ranking has been #3, and that was for a total of 2 weeks.

Before last year, half your fanbase was ready to run Gus out on a rail.

You said "The key to any program is to be in the conversation in late Nov."

My response was that Gus did not have AU in the conversation in late November '14, '15, or '16 and a sizable portion of your fan base wanted his head on the chopping block.

Yes, people were conversing about AU in late Nov '17 after they kicked arse in JHS vs their two biggest rivals. Gus snagged a very lucrative contract in the wake of those games, he then proceeded to crash in the SECCG and the NY6 bowl resulting in another 4 loss season and a 1-4 bowl record.

To excuse the UCF bowl loss and act like it's all forgiven because he had AU in the CFP conversation for 2 weeks in late Nov '17 just seems very shortsighted to me. But if you're happy - you're happy.

I admit I'm spoiled arse rotten while riding this Saban train for over a decade. I'll have to come back down to Earth one day when the old guy hangs up his whistle.

That is really the issue. What Gus has done is better than anyone else in the SEC to this point. Kirby has a chance to surpass Gus, but Gus also has the opportunity to add to his resume. Using Saban as a base for satisfaction in coaching is idiotic IMO. Many coaches have had some level of success at bama, but none (not even Bear) has accomplished anything like what Saban has done.
