Winning back-to-back nattys in this era of college football would be the most impressive….

accomplishment in the history of college football. You have to manage NIL and you literally have to recruit your own players to stay every single year. The fact that Kirby has convinced all of these elite players to stay so that we have the depth to overcome all of our injuries is truly remarkable. That’s why Kirby will soon replace Saban as the greatest coach of all time.

He’ll need to win several more nattys, one being at another school, to sniff Saban’s accomplishments. Not likely to happen.

No, Saban had it easy because he didn’t have to deal with the NIL or transfer portal. If Kirby wins four nattys in this era of football he has already eclipsed Saban. Saban hasn’t and can’t win a natty in the NIL/portal era.

NIL made it easier for programs like Georgia if anything. It took more skill and creativity to pay players under the table like Saban has his whole career

You think BK wins his first NY6 game next season?

College football was the most competitive it was or will be anytime soon from 1998-2019. The new landscape is a joke compared to what it was. Saban dominated the most competitive and intense era. We’ll have to have a big reset to get back to that. Kirby Smart is doing a good job right now, but the reality is that the landscape of college football is a mess, people care much less than they did, and the sport is becoming more and more regional. I don’t expect college football to be in 2030 what it was pre-Covid 2020. Because of that, I don’t think Smart will have to opportunity to approach Saban’s level of GOAT because I don’t think the environment will be the same for him.
Let’s see if the expanded playoff reinvigorates the sport, though. Right now, college football is a mess.

How can you say that when Saban hasn’t won a natty in the NIL/Portal era?

As a matter of fact, isn’t Kirby still Ed Orgeron’s bitch?

Kirby won the SEC championship and almost a natty in his second year as a head coach at UGA. That was without Monken. In that year alone he accomplished more than BK has in his entire career.
