Not because of paying players, but because he had one of the biggest budgets in the country and the best players he could get were Naz Reid, Javonte Smart, and Trendon Watford.

Plus you have Javonte Smart back for his 5th year of eligiblity (Balding), averaging 12 points per game, and Trendon Watford and Emmitt Williams since no NBA teams want them and they were overrated as recruits. I guess they could go pro and end up undrafted like Naz Reid but they'd be better off coming back to LSU and getting paid! for another season.
