We have 5 to be exact.
Using the "new" formulas, yes. Same as Auburn.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Football_Championship#Yearly_national_championship_selections_from_major_selectors
SEC National Championships according to the above list:
Bama - 17
LSU - 7
Tennessee - 7
Auburn - 5
Florida - 5
Georgia - 5
Ole Miss - 3
Texas A&M - 3
Arkansas - 2
Missouri - 2
Kentucky - 1
Mississippi State - zero
South Carolina - zero
Vanderbilt - zero
Using major polls and the BCS, however, UGA has one (1980) and Auburn has two (1957, 2010).

NOpe, he will never win a NC. He doesn't have what it takes to pull it all together, even if he had the players talented enough to do that.

I think it will be tough for him to do it, but I won't say it is impossible.
The trick is that UGA is finding itself in the best possible position to dominate the east for the next 2-4 years - however the balance of power has swung to the west and looks to stay there another 3-5 years.
The downside for UGA is that Bama has made inroads into the Atlanta/Georgia recruting base, Auburn continues to be a big player in recruiting this area, and with Boom at UF and his connections to Georgia they will begin to raid not for large numbers, but possibly to cherry pick upper echelon talent.
Also, in a couple of years UT and UF will start to move back up the food chain, so even if UGA dominates the east by winning the division several times in the next few years, the likelyhood of them doing it undefeated by playing UT, UF, AU, USCe every year and then Bama, LSU, Arky, every so often and possibly facing them in the SECCG is very small. I know you don't have to be perfect to reach the BCSCG, but it certainly helps...

That 45-7 beatdown made me smile a few weeks ago Aubie.

no i agree and UF and bammer were the better teams but UGA had enough talent there for a much better fight than we put up. injuries and horrid coaching not to mention terrible leaders killed that year

This is why a lot of opposing SEC fans and some UGA fans completely stopped believing in Richt, none of them really understood the 2008 season. IMO
And it's kind of funny that nobody has mentioned the '05 team at all. Not as good as '07 or '02, but lost 2 reg season games by 8 combined points.
Lost to UF by 7 w/o Shockley, unquestionably the most important player on that team.
Lost to AU by 1 after they converted a 4th and a mile inside the final minute or two. Tra Battle blew coverage on the play, was concussed the play before and didn't make it off the field. AU receiver actually fumbled on the play as well, which would have given us the ball back...but you can't fumble forward on 4th down.
BUT we did something pretty special that year.
And no I don't mean the coming out party we threw for Rich Rod, Pat White, Steve Slaton, and Darius Reynaud
I'm just happy we'll get to travel to New Orleans this year for the Sugar Bowl instead of Atlanta.
2012 could be really dirty, regardless of whether Mizzou replaces Bama or Ole Miss. Obviously I would prefer the former
