Will Muschamp was head coach in waiting at Texas. Would he have done well as UT HC?

Part of me wonders if Texas did this just do hang on to Muschamp, who probably would have taken one of the openings in late 2008 like Tennessee, Auburn, and Clemson.

Would’ve failed there just like Florida

Yea, not sure how it would have been any different at all.

He probably would've been on par with Charlie Strong. Having a bad offense in the Big 12 is a recipe for disaster.

No he would not have been successful.

He probably would have done better than Charlie Strong.
Their donors sure preferred a coach with his..."countenance".

Yes, he would have. That defensive minded bastard would kill it in that conference.
That's not a joke either. That dude has put together some nasty defenses. Imagine a defense like 2012 Florida going into the Big 12

Would you rather have had Mack Brown from 2010-2013 or Will Muschamp?

Boom was too young and headstrong at the time.
He carried that hubris over to Florida, had to deal with the mess Urbie left him and his style did not mesh with Urbie's mess, nor did he know how to overcome those problems, thus he failed in the overall scheme of things.
He's learned his lessons and that's something he seems to be very good at doing, learning from his mistakes.
He is also a very solid judge of talent.
He's just now hitting his stride. I've seen it time and time again in the business world. He's in his forties and still improving. However, the answer to the question is no, he would not have been successful at Texas. He was too young and inexperienced at the time. A hard worker no doubt with a great eye for talent and a solid work ethic, but not enough real life experience. His time since has been spent building his organizational, political and communication skills while, at the same time, learning to throttle his emotions to some degree.
In other words he has matured.

He would have fail like he did in UF just not as bad because he was use to the program. He was horrible at UF . He came into the UF job at a much better time then Mac and Mullen . He is going to be a DC again in about 3 years. It will be interesting to see if anyone will offer him another head coaching job after USCe fires him.

Muschamp. He & Applewhite were the glue the last year TX had any success under Mack. Once Muschamp left it was over/country club cruise control entitlement.

This, coming from an aggy whose school fired its only black head football coach, with a 51-26 record, 3-2 in bowl games, a Heisman Trophy winner, named SEC Coach of the Year and who brought the school its first top-5 finish since 1956...
