Memphis lost 6 games last year in a non power 5 conference and is favored by a touchdown against Ole Miss. Neither team is worth a shite but to answer your question, Memphis should win the game. Ole Miss could pull the upset, but they lost a ton and have not recruited well on defense in a long time along with losing all of their offensive production minus the tailback from last year.

The bigger thing to me is if they do pull it off, OM fans are going to want Luke’s head.

The first two games are vital for Luke's survival at Ole Miss.

No one wants to drop a game to Memphis, especially not a program like Ole Miss that has made so many inroads into the Memphis area.

If that is followed by a loss to an Arkansas team that is coming off the worst season in the history of the program... there is a chance Luke doesn't make it to the third game. I think Luke has to at least get a split in the first two games to have any shot of making it past this season and even a split is going to set his seat on fire.

There is no way Ole Miss goes bowling unless they win all of the following:

Memphis
SELA
Arkansas
Vandy
Cal
New Mexico State

Spoiler alert: they ain't winning all those.

Like all games in this rivalry, Memphis will be ahead or close until late and Ole Miss will pull it out close.

Wouldn’t be surprised with any result. Memphis had a lot of coaching turnover and lost their best player to the NFL. Ole Miss has more overall talent but will be one of the youngest teams in the country.

Just a side note for reference, those 6 losses included:

Mizzou
Wake Forest (bowl game)
UCF twice

I say if Ole Miss can get a nice lead early then we win it easily. If it's a close game then we lose it on a last second big play.

I may end up eating these words-but yes-Ole Miss will beat Memphis. We have adults at the steering wheel of the offense and defense, which has not been the case the past couple of years.

We might win 5-6 games this year... as long as Little Matty Luke is kept in the back seat asking, Daddy Rod and Mama Mike, "Are we there, yet?"
