Think we might as well get this question going. I think Memphis should be legit.

Memphis is going to score points. This could end up a 45-42 type game.

I remember a game, 60 or so maybe, when Spook Murphy was still at Memphis State and maybe Ray Malaveasi was there .... Memphis State had it going on for awhile. Had a coach outta Treadwell HS named John Cobb.

I was a young kid that year. First game I really remember as a football fan, Ole Miss fan, Memphis State fan ... man I was torn. Had family who played for Arkansas and Tulane and Tennessee and Memphis State, but I loved Johnny Vaught as a kid.

Memphis State won that day.

They will not win this one.

Luke has good karma and he is Ole Miss born and bred. It ain't gonna happen. Take my word for it. I have had a feeling for these games my entire life.

UCF wasn’t great by any means, and I think anyone who truly watched our game against them could see they weren’t really on the same level as us, but they still weren’t complete pushovers and played us 10x closer than Ole Miss. Memphis was step for step in both of their games against UCF last year. I know that property doesn’t really apply to football but is it wrong for me to expect a Memphis win?

Both teams will be high, but especially Memphis. High scoring, last possession winner is highly possible.

Well Memphis is a 6-7 point favorite and isn't losing momentum as program like OM, so yeah it's not a crazy guess that Memphis will win.

They definitely have the shot. They have a lot going for them. Psych factor. Home field. Nothing to lose, a lot to gain.

The bigger thing to me is if they do pull it off, OM fans are going to want Luke’s head. It’s easy to say right now “Oh but we’ve got new coordinators and have to develop a system,” but let see how a loss to Memphis to kick off the season feels after last season, and the fact a loss to Memphis almost guarantees we won’t go bowling. It’s a pretty damn critical game for Luke.

If our Oline is good enough to block Memphis (which it should be but I’m worried about it) we should score a lot. Memphis will score a lot. Our D is bad and it will be the first game going from a 4 man front to a 3 man front. It probably comes down to turnovers and red zone efficiency. Can Corral get hot? Can the OM defense turn Memphis over? I have no idea. It will be intriguing for sure.

Don't know about the game you are talking about but you are mistaken about the year. OM from 59-62 hardly lost to anyone. Not sure they even starting playing Memphis State until the mid 60s

ETA - I wasn't there but was at work and had to listen on the radio. 1974 MSU at Memphis State. We were behind and got the ball on the 2 yard line. Rocky Felker and Dennis Johnson (mostly) took the ball 98 yards with less than 2 minutes to play. One of my favorite MSU football games of all time.

It's also a day game right? which means it will be !@#! hot, Ole Miss should have a better S&C program than memphis to have players ready.

I think it will be high scoring and a bit lopsided, but have no idea which side ends up on top. Once one team gets up by 2 scores I think the other will press for a bit and it will start a feeding frenzy.

Should be a great day for all the local cold chicken tender restaurants in Memphis. Rebel fans will be ravenous with hunger from drinking all day in the hot sun.

If the young skill guys can’t take care of the ball they might. But I think we will protect the football and win by ten. And Memphis goes on to a ten win season despite the loss.

I predict Memphis to beat Ole Miss, and then Arkansas comes into town and makes Ole Miss start the year 0-2.

A man can dream.
