In the normal NIT you have to have a winning record to be invited. They added that in when they gave auto-bids to teams that won their conference regular season but didnt win the tournament/make the NCAAT.

Long Island, San Francisco, IU and UCLA feel left out of the Has-Been Invitational.

there are now qualifiers to get into the NIT. And i doubt they would meet any of the qualifiers
