Why would they stay home unless they grew up die hard fans? If UNC or Duke come calling, you go.

Doesn't explain the other 7 seasons where we practiced with a tv remote during march madness. Frank can't even get the top players from the state and frankly parents don't want to go watch their kid get cussed out in front of everyone. Frank likes recruiting great athletes not basketball players. Time for him to retire.

I know at times he has appeared like a marine drill sgt, but the Covid virus has hit the whole state of SC. He is a very good coach and given another year without Covid the results could be different. Tap the brakes.

We're not just losing them to those schools. We've lost kids to Bama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Providence and a host of other schools. We'll never be world beaters in basketball, but there's no reason for us being as uncompetitive as we are now.

Drop the covid year and you're still looking at 7 out of 8 years not in the dance. Frank caught lightening in the bottle the final four year and failed to use it to up the recruiting game. Look for Frank to step down after this season.

Like the 2020 NBA Rookie of the year who went to Murray State. The guy Frank told he could be a PWO at the school a county up from where he played h.s. ball.

He's out is the word. Expecting an announcement either tomorrow or Tuesday. They are supposed to meet with him today.

Frank should be allowed to stay and right the ship, my mustard loving buddy.

Forced mutual is probably the best way to describe it, I guess. Unless the situation does a 180, he's gone. But we do have Ray Tanner as AD so you never know how that might end up going.

This doesn’t seem like Tanner’s decision

No. He's had several 'one more year to right the ship' opportunities and nothing but failure has transpired. Looks like damn near our entire team will be leaving either way, anyway. Best to cut the cord now and let a new coach be in charge of bringing in his own new guys rather than going into rebuild the rebuild of the rebuild mode yet again with Frank at the helm.

I think Bob Caslen probably had a healthy dose of a say in this as well. He does not like losing.

He's been the best coach you ever had, but with saying that, I get it if Scar wants to move on.

Says the Auburn fan when their program hired Bruce Pearl

The real statement here is "Not sure Ray Tanner could do better"

He can't recruit. He wants to play college ball how it "should be" played, not how it is played. Inability to keep instate kids instate. Both Carolina and Clemson have this issue...neither coach is willing to grease the hands of the instate AAU coaches to have them direct their kids to our schools. (I'm sure Clemson will remedy their situation shortly in that area and tbh I wouldn't object if we did as well as long as we do it without getting caught)

Frank is an awesome person. I hate it has come to this. All of us will forever be grateful for that amazing Final Four run. I know I will never forget it. He has been loyal and has represented us with class. But bottom line..this is a results driven business and we have had zero returns nor results since that Final Four. Time to turn the page.

Frank McGuire was by far the best coach SC ever had.

yes and George Felton along with Fogler are both more basketball purists with X's & O's than Martin. Martin had the best NCAAT run ever of any Gamecock coach and for that he should be highly commended.

let the beatings begin, but USC winning the 1970 ACCT - in that era with all overflowing hate between Big Frank, Eddie Cameron & Chuck Erickson at NCU - is still a more distinguished basketball trophy than the 2017 East Region champions trophy.

Agree, and back in McGuire's day at SC the NCAAT field consisted of a lot fewer teams. McGuire got SC into quite a few even with fewer teams making the NCAAT. Martin made one in 9 years with a 68 team field.

Welp, apparently Ray asked Frank to meet with him Friday but Frank preferred Monday. And there is at least one trustee who wants to give him another year. Oddly, it seems Ray is one of the primary ppl in favor of change. Maybe his balls dropped once he got a taste of firing someone with Muschamp.
