He is slow his first few steps. If there is a hole where he can get going he is dangerous.

Not unless he gets gaping, wide-open holes to run through like he does now. Last time I checked, those situations are pretty hard to come by in the NFL. So I will say no.

Well I like Drake better, but I also thought Trent was twice the back of Ingram.

Some folks can not handle the adjustment when moving up. Some do better.

He has ran alot more physical this year than last. Several plays against Wisconsin he lowered the shoulder. If he keep improving that he will be good to go.

Honestly, I doubt it. He is a good college RB, but he's just a big, freak athlete. Might have had a better future at a different position. But, he's a very hard worker, with a great attitude, so he might still make the move, or even surprise me at RB.

Ran a 4.45/40 at The Opening in 2012 with a 41" vert. 247 article said he consistently ran in the 4.5's at other events. Reportedly ran 4.5 at Bama's Spring testing this year.

Like others said, freak jumbo athlete but you don't see many RBs his size in the NFL and the ones that have played have been mauler-types which Henry isn't.

ETA: he wasn't recruited by Bama to play LB. A lot of recruiting analysts felt that might be his best position in college and a lot of rival fans naturally concluded that Bama would try to turn him into a LB but he was recruited as a RB

He is long-legged even for a man of his stature. His high center-of-gravity, coupled with a slow 1st gear, means that he isn't effective unless used on the edge or with great holes.

Once he is in space, though, El Tractorcito is hard to stop. Waaay too fast for 250 lbs.

I agree with all of this.

Great pass blocker though. He'll be a serviceable NFL back. Nothing special due to his high center of gravity. If he had played LB under Saban's tutelage I think he would be a 1st round pick and star in the league.

Great college back though.

He's a high 4.5 at worst. I've never seen him get run down from behind. He just keeps picking up speed. His knock is he doesn't have that first (or second) explosive step.

That's a contradiction. 40 is all about initial burst. He has a great, long stride, but that doesn't hit until the very end of a 40.

Drake is going to be much more sought after by NFL teams IMO.

He's got that fast-twitch, crazy quick athleticism they love and is a really good receiver. I'd love the Saints to get Drake if he can stay healthy. He'd fit that offense so well.

reminds me of Brandon Jacobs, just a little faster

That's what I was thinking. At the least he looks like he would be durable.

He's a big guy and they usually have longer Football careers.

Brandon was a mauler though. He used his huge thighs and got low and pushed piles.

Henry doesn't run with that style. They're both huge, but Henry is much faster and doesn't run with that kind of crazy power. He looks for holes and to push it outside to outrun folks.

Once he gets going, he's nearly impossible to stop, but he isn't making his own holes in the NFL like Brandon did for years.

He is a top 3 back in the country. Who knows how he will do in the NFL and really dont care. I hope he does great, but he has been a really good back so far at Bama. I expect this to year to be a break out season for him.
He gone after this year IMO. Roll Tide!

riiight. The Falcons paid Julio Jones more than any receiver in the NFL not name Calvin Johnson b/c he doesn't translate well to the NFL.
Dareus got the most guaranteed money for a non QB in NFL history b/c he doesn't translate well in the NFL.
The Saints re-signed Ingram b/c he doesn't translate to the NFL.
The Texans re-signed Kareem Jackson for $32M b/c he doesn't translate to the NFL.
CJ Mosley made the pro bowl as a rookie b/c he doesn't translate to the NFL.
Eddie Lacy was Offensive Rookie of the year and has been to pro bowl in both of his season b/c he doesn't translate to the NFL.
Dont'a Hightower is about to get a $50M contract with $25M+ gtd b/c he doesn't translate well to the NFL.
The Ravens had Courtney Upshaw calling the Defense in the Super Bowl b/c he doesn't translate well to the NFL.

You nailed it, Jack.

This is bizarre to me because his first two years he ran like a 245 lb scat back. He does seem to be running with more power this year, so hopefully that trend continues.

Take this with a grain of salt, but McShay does have him listed as the No. 2 rb prospect of this year's draft eligible players. As others have said already, between the 2 Bama backs if I were making draft decisions I would be looking at Drake

All the points have been touched on IMO.

1. He runs too upright to have success as a power back in the NFL. He'd be destroyed by the LBs and chopped down too easily by the safeties.

2. His acceleration is mediocre, which is why he doesn't "explode" through the hole like a LF7 or Chubb. His top end speed is elite though.

3. His vision isn't great.

4. He hesitates a bit too much, which is why he gets criticized for "tip toeing". He's not a guy who will get 2-3 yards when there's nothing there just by pushing the pile often.

5. His pass pro is above average, but he seems to go for the "highlight" block and knock rushers on their arse too much.

All-in-All he's a great college back because of his size and speed, but he will need to put a serious effort towards becoming more aggressive if he wants a long career in the league IMO.
