It's not that LSU won't embrace a rivalry with Florida, it's that Florida won't embrace LSU as a rival - with good reason, LSU is a rival killer. SEE: Tulane, Ole Miss. NO ONE wants to be LSU's rival and end up like those two programs.

that's right on man. florida's skeered of LSU.

I would like to shed some truth on this subject. First, the majority of LSU fans absolutely do embrace the UF game, and with good reason. The UF game is year in and year out one of the most anticipated games on our schedule, and the winner of that game is more times than not a big player on the national stage. So much so that both schools should embrace this game. Since 2000, the winner:

2000- UF Sugar
2001- UF Orange (LSU Sugar)
2002- none
2003- LSU BCS Champs
2004- none
2005- none
2006- UF BCS Champs (LSU Sugar)
2007- LSU BCS Champs
2008- UF BCS Champs
2009- UF Sugar
2010- none
2011- LSU BCS NCG
2012- UF Orange

9 of 13 years the winner goes to a BCS bowl. 4 times the winner is also the national champion.

Now, the administration has raised the issue that the West division schedules are not on a level playing field because they really aren't. The teams in the west that we compete against have easier paths to Atlanta than we do. I don't really see how anyone could argue against that:

LSU vs UF/USCe & UGA
Bama vs UT/Mizzou & UK
Ole Miss vs Vandy/UGA & Mizzou
Texas A&M vs Mizzou/UF & Vandy

One team has 2 top 10 teams and the others don't. It's that simple. However, the idea that the fans do not embrace this game is simply not true.

ETA: LSU didn't win this game in 2003, so it's actually 8 of 13.

If I were bama I would fight like hell to keep TN as my permanent rival....Why wouldn't they??? And you know who has the loudest voice in the SEC offices....

LSU-Fla Series, and it's ramifications on one or the other making it to Atlanta..

1996 LSU lost to Florida and Alabama, both LSU and Bama were 6-2, so Bama went to the SECCG on the tie breaker. A win over some other SEC East team, and LSU plays Fla in SECCG.

2001, Florida dropped the last game to Tenn, or LSU would have played them in the SECCG.

2005 Florida lost to LSU and finished 1 game behind UGA, whom they beat head-to-head, in SEC East. Urban's first year, LSU got out to early lead in BR, and had to hold on late for the small win.

2007 Fla lost to LSU in epic 5-for-5 4th Down classic on road, and finished one game behind UGA and Tenn in the SEC. They beat UT, but lost to UGA, so not sure how the 3 team tie breaker was decided? Tenn went to Atl

A minimum of 4 times the rivalry greatly factored into the possibility of LSU-Fla meeting up in Atlanta, over 21 yrs.

And LSU blew hard for five of the 21 seasons('92, '93,'94,'98,'99) with no bowl chances, thus it has factored around once every four years for LSU-Fla(4 times in 16 seasons where both contended), for 25% of the time mimimum.

The SECCG has featured a rematch of a regular season game a total of six times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2010), none of which were amongst permanent regular season rivals, 0-for-21 permanent foe rematches! A stat that though seems hard to believe as true..really isn't if you just think about some stacked factors that aid it along

The team who won the regular season game is 5-1 in the rematches, the lone exception being in 2001 when LSU defeated Tennessee in the championship game after losing to them in the regular season. Which stands to rationale, that if the regular season loss alone wasn't enough to deny a school a trip to Atlanta, beating them when you couldn't the first time, is rather daunting.

That, and the SEC having the Natty Champ emerge 10 of the last 21 yrs(Fla 3, Bama 4, LSU 2, Tenn 1, Aub 1)..tough sledding to want play the powerhouse of the state of Fla, and the toughest division in D-1 in SEC-West!

But, all you 'to be the best gotta beat the best' and 'I pay a King's ransom for my season tickets..thus need marquee games..championships be damned' bunch..just keep spinning and telling yourselves the series isn't a factor at all. Or that Bam with Tenn, doesn't have a huge inbuilt scheduling edge(not to mention LSU-UGa vs Bama-Ky).

If LSU-UF didn't play yearly in the regular season, the two heavyweights would've met up in Atlanta by now..multiple times!

A good game everyone looks forward to, but is after FSU, UGA, Tenn, Miami, and now USC. Great deal of respect for them but they don't crack the top five on out list of rivalries.

Because LSU likes playing high profile games. Quit crying, most LSU fans like playing Florida, including myself. Gotta beat the best to be the best. I will admit that this years schedule will be brutal though.

Bama should think the same way. If you only play 2 tough games per year, and win the BCSNC, then you're a happy Gump. I would rather play 4 or 5 tough games per year and suffer the consequences...

Fwiw, I grew up disliking Florida more than Bama. I'm part of a younger generation and for a good part of my life, Bama sucked.

Florida and Auburn seemed like the top dogs to me and I hated both those schools more than Alabama. In fact, LSU has beaten Alabama more than the other way around since I've been alive.

Keep the Gators!

We want a bunch of good games to attend, not just Wichita State or Troy beat-downs...

It may not be a "rivalry", per se, but it's a fun game nonetheless. I certainly enjoy it.

Not a rival but rather play them yearly than Kentucky or Missouri.
