Because we spread the wealth around and don't consolidate it to one or two programs.

For instance. Since two different teams from the BIG 10 won titles we have had 6 different teams from the SEC win.

Sorry. I don't mean to be laughing at the BIG 10.

I lied. I did mean to be laughing.

Even the ACC has two titles since the BIG 10 won their last.

It gets worse for the Big Ten

The SEC AVERAGES three NC per decade since 1950. The only decade that the SEC did not win 3 was the 1980's were the SEC won 1.

Since 1970, the Big Ten has won 3 NC in football

Individual southern schools have either topped that number or tied it since 1980

Miami (Fl) - 5
Florida - 3
FSU - 3
Alabama- 7
LSU - 3
Clemson - 3

so out of 43 years southern schools have won over half the titles

(and my list does not include Georgia, Auburn, or Tennessee)

In fairness, I should have noted that Alabama (Our Blueblood) has carried the heavy load with easily the most titles, but it is also fair to note that a large number of other teams have won titles, too. And, as you noted, when you include the entire south east it really gets ugly. The southeastern US easily has the best college football in the entire country. There is no arguing that point. That would hold true if you even if we took Alabama out of the equation, so that just shows how strong this area of the country has been.

They've played in a final game that would produce a national title trophy in 7 straight decades

There are Blue Bloods and then there are Blue Bloods.

I find it interesting that when people list all of the Blue Bloods, that there is only one that is still winning.

We (I) tend to think of teams that have been successful in the distant past when I think of BLueBlood. (Texas, USCw, OSU, Michigan, ND, and a couple of others....and only one really still wins at a level worthy to be called a BlueBlood.

(I try to give credit where credit is due) Tip of the cap to Alabama.

I really dont see texas as a blue blood, they should be maybe, but in my 5 decades they have had some highs but far more lowes.

No doubt they are fringe and could go either way. They would make my list, but i don't think there is a definitive list naming bluebloods. Maybe there is? I don't know.

No disrespect to Michigan but they’ve won a 1/2 National Championship in 74 years. And that 97 Nebraska team would have steamrolled Michigan.

Oklahoma hasn’t won a NC in 20 years
Texas has won one National Championship in 50 years
Ohio State has won 2 NC in 50 years
USC has won one NC in over 40 years
Nebraska hasn’t won a NC in 25 years
Notre Dame hasn’t won a NC in 33 years

In the last 25 years
LSU has won 3
Florida has won 2
Florida State has won 2

In the last 40 years Miami has won 5 NC

The idea of a blue blood is pretty fluid, but based on consistency it’s not hard to argue that Alabama is really the only blue blood.

First you said this
quote:

Ohio State has won 2 NC in 50 years
And I'm fine with that because it is true. Then you tried to spin this
quote:

In the last 25 years
LSU has won 3
Florida has won 2
Florida State has won 2
Leaving out Ohio State has 2 national title the same time span.

Hah! Everyone gives UGA crap for only winning 1 since 1980. The B?G* has 3 since 1970? Even the aCC has more. Big14-2 may have.

When OU and Texas join there will be 3 of the top 5 in the SEC, not to mention the other schools who have one multiple titles recently. There really is no debate the SEC is now and definitely will be the undisputed best conference.

Yes, but UGA has played for the NC in 82, 83 and 17

So 5 times since 1980

It's difficult to pinpoint what a blueblood is. Everybody has their own idea and their own criteria.

Some base it off National Championships. Some off all-time wins. Others throw in Heisman winners, conference championships etc.

Still others want recency to rule the day, while others don't care and think wins alone rule the day.

I really don't care. I do agree that Alabama would belong on any blueblood list as they have all of the criteria mentioned. In the end, it really doesn't matter who is a blueblood and who is not. What it all boils down to me is who is winning today. Nebraska success30-40 years ago was interesting to watch, but does not affect me today at all.

ETA
I should add that whatever criteria you choose Alabama still comes out on top. That has to be impressive by any metric.

The best analogy I can think of is old money. Bluebloods is nothing more than programs with old money.
