I went to Birmingham to see a minor league game this year. The minor league team is under the White Soxs team. I saw two people with White Soxs gear on. And about a thousand that had Braves gear on. And they were not playing a Braves owned team. And to add- that ball Field in downtown Bham was excellent.

I'm a Braves fan. I just used their Game 5 loss to troll Georgia fans

I have lived in Tuscaloosa my whole life. I have never seen a single other pro baseball team supported. It's 100% Braves country here. Maybe you're running into college grads from outside the state of Alabama.
Tuscaloosa is allllll Braves.

As a Georgian and a UGA fan we’re happy to share the Braves with the South. It’s one of the few places where we drop the swords and can be friendly. I’ve always thought of them as the South’s team though there are fans of other teams certainly. I also don’t understand the ATL hate. It’s a huge benefit to SC, AL, TN, And North Florida from an economic standpoint. By proximity you get the benefit of an immense monetary engine, and yet you can still enjoy the quality of a rural small town quality of life.

Milo and Ernie. WAPI in Birmingham. Every night.
There are stories about how Milo finagled to make sure he was on the call when Aaron hit 715.

Back in the day, you had 2 options to watch baseball in the South. The Braves on TBS, or Cubs (during the day) on WGN.
Maybe back in your day.
Back in my day, your two options in Birmingham were Milo and Ernie on WAPI radio, or the rare occasion when they were the NBC Game of the Week on Saturday with Curt Gowdy and Tony Kubek.
Yes, I'm old.

All of this discussion of the popularity of the Braves in Alabama and the Southeast though does lead into a point that I have always found interesting.
The Braves and the Falcons both played their first games in Atlanta in 1966. The Braves marketed themselves as a regional team. Right from the start, they were popular in cities and towns all over the Southeast, including all over Alabama. Growing up in Birmingham, I listened to Milo Hamilton and Ernie Johnson every night. All my friends were Braves fans. And that was long before TBS came along.
In contrast, I didn't know anyone who was a Falcons fan. No one could have cared less about the Falcons. And it's not because college football was so popular. We loved pro football also. The Packers, the Colts, and the Cowboys were the popular teams of the day, and then the Jets, when Namath won the Super Bowl. No one cared about the Falcons. I don't think the Falcons made much of an effort to market themselves regionally. I always found it interesting that the Falcons never caught on to the extent that the Braves did, even before TBS. And it's not because college football was so popular.

Well the Braves were a transfer franchise and they were a good team prior to moving to Atlanta. Plus the Falcons and Saints were born the same year and that split the South.

Huh? I know tons of Alabama fans who are also Braves fans.
Easily the most popular baseball team among Alabama fans.

Bunch of t-shirt/sidewalk Braves fans never even played for the Braves or were employed by the organization

TBS brought the Braves to the entire South. Truly were America's team.

TBS brought the Braves to the entire country in the same way WGN brought the Cubs to the entire country.
But my gosh those TBS announcer could suck the life out of the game. Skip Caray was horrible - monotone voice and not an ounce of excitement in his voice. Whoever he joined with was no better.

This. The biggest Cubs fan I know grew up in a small farming town in upstate New York. His Cubs Fandom is just because of WGN

You're a fricking idiot! I'd bet that Alabama and South Carolina are the two biggest Braves states besides Georgia!

That is why the talk in this thread about Braves regional broadcasts in the south confused me. As far as I know those broadcasts were national.
I am talking about throughout the ‘80s. Maybe it was regional before or after?
I remember the Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Brett Butler era.
