Muschamp 2.0. Smart needs to go get some head coaching experience at a lower rung, then make the jump. Florida needs someone with head-coaching experience at a non-Power Five school.

If they would even consider Kirby Smart, I'd think they'd go after Gary Patterson first.

Yes, this is the kind of guy Florida needs. Someone who has head-coaching experience. Not sure if he would take it, but doesn't hurt to ask.

This is Kirby's 8th season with Nick Saban. He has produced some of the best defenses over the years. He is also the highest paid assistant coordinator (which you just don't become the highest paid DC without justifying it to the Bama's AD). He has gotten tons of exposure from one of the best current coach in CFB. He is clearly ready to jump to the next level. If Florida was smart they would take him in a heartbeat. Don't have doubts about hiring a coordinator to HC... look at the success of Jimbo Fisher or Boob Stoops.
What if we trade Kirby to Fla. for Muschamp (def. co. taken care of) and Billy Donovan (BB hc taken care of). That would be a Billy Beane quality trade.

Saban for Billy would be a fair trade, but come on Kirby for Billy? lmao

Saban draws up the defensive game plan during the wk & make no mistake about it, it is his game plan. Who actually calls the defense during the game has little to do with the plan itself. Saban is a self professed, and widely acknowledged, control freak & if you don't think he's running the defense at bama, you must think he's a really great person, too.

Hence the reference to Billy Beane.
