a better job than Ole Miss? Objectively it’s a better job not really a debate there, but why? Why hasn’t one of the Mississippi schools decided to be a player? Why are both Alabama schools better than your schools? As an outsider it doesn’t make since why Mississippi’s #1 wouldn’t be better than Alabama’s #2. Any insight?

Bad marketing with racist tones To begin with, then some of the worst PR you have ever seen with the mascot issue over and over again, terrible AD’s, no commitment to facilities, rival relationship that cannibalizes each other like crabs in a bucket instead of a gentleman's agreement, not knowing how to cheat…I can go on and on. We have corrected a lot of that and are trying to take steps to be competitive.

Both MSU and OM were neck and neck up until 2020. Ole Miss has the momentum right now, but it always changes.
Alabama, Auburn have had advantages of being in a state that grew faster than Mississippi going way way back. After WWII, and our little run at success, MSU quit caring about football whatsoever. This was evident since the next 3 decades were absolutely lifeless. For some reason OM wised up about football, cared more, and had much more success in that period. State folks settled and didn't understand why football was so important. They caught on....but it would be awhile before they did.
Both MS programs have had similar results in the past 3 decades and have rarely been worth a damn at the same time.
Bama on the other hand, made an important coaching hire and developed into a national power. Meanwhile, Auburn had to compete with a long trend of sustained Bama success and by doing so, became an national brand themselves. Energy from one fed the other, and of course jealousy and hatred grew deep.

Traditionally it has been. They have a contender usually every 6 years or so which Ole Miss does not.
The difference is how difficult Auburn's schedule is combined with expectations. Georgia plus the SEC west is the hardest annual schedule currently in the country by a good bit.

Well for one, we don’t have to settle for hanging SEC runner up banners in our stadium as our major accomplishment.

I disagree. Y'all were much better than us in in 2016 - 2019.

I agree with both points. Y'all had the momentum in 2010 - 2012, we had it from 2013 - 2015, y'all took it back from 2016 - 2019, and we took it back and haven't given it up.

Technically that’s Second Runner Up Banners

Mississippi has some fine people, but there is nothing there to lift those schools. The biggest city is a third world hellhole. It'd be like if Atlanta and Birmingham didn't exist and Auburn had to rely on Montgomery.

And still compete with another SEC rival across the state.
Mississippi has Memphis nearby, though.
The state does seem to be on a downward trajectory in general. MS and LA are a couple of the only states losing population right now.
Mississippi should relocate state government to Tupelo and write the rest off.
