Why I'm a fan of ____________________

Looking at the "sidewalkers" thread, I thought I might start something instead - the "Why I'm a fan" thread.
To be fair, I'll go first. That way I can be first to be mocked :)
I grew up an Alabama fan; I remember cheering for them in elementary school. It goes back to my grandfather - he and his brothers, before they were even in high school, would climb trees near the field to watch Alabama play in the 30s (the Frank Thomas era), maybe earlier but I cannot remember. He was always a huge fan. He served in World War 2, then went into business afterwards - he never went to school there.
My mom converted my dad - he graduated from Mississippi State and grew up in Arkansas, but was never a big fan of any particular team. So my mom got him to be a huge fan of Alabama, and I grew up with my older brother being a huge fan as well (my younger brother, not so much - though he's the one who went to Alabama). My older brother ended up in the Marines and Army, and I ended up at Mississippi State.
I ended up with several cousins, a few aunts and uncles, and a brother all at Alabama at different times. My grandfather is a great-grandfather now, so 4 generations in of having started the tradition in my family. He was around for the Ears Whitworth era; I remember cheering and cringing during the Shula and Dubose years.
Interestingly enough, my best friend growing up was an Auburn fan - we still stay in touch to a bit. I dated an Auburn fan and an LSU fan (BTW - Auburn fans - few things are sexier than a woman in cutoff shorts and that tiger tail. I'm just sayin').
So, yeah - I grew up an Alabama fan. My mom was one of the most intense fans I ever saw. My dad - he always had a tier of teams:
Alabama
Teams from the state of Alabama*
Mississippi State*
Arkansas*
Teams from the SEC*
Teams from the South
* - My dad was a bit too practical at times - if Mississippi State had a shot at, say, the SEC West title, he would cheer for them over Auburn, but otherwise it was "keep it in state".
So, there you have it. Why I'm a Bama fan.

Third generation auburn alum. Grandfather was the first. Spent 2 yrs at AU, joined the Navy for WW2. Came back and finished his degree at AU.
Had his own practice for 30 years. Well known in certain north alabama town for his AU fandom. Helped Vince Dooley sign his first recruit to AU as an assistant at my grandparents house. Also, embarrassed himself a bit by going down on the field and asking AUs offensive co-coordinator when he was going to retire so AU could beat bama as he was walking off the field of an IB at legion field. Coach went berserk and had to be restrained by other AU coaches.
Parents took me to my first game when I was 2 years old. We have had season tickets in the family since the 1950s. I've probably been to 150 or so AU games. Really no idea, but a lot and about all the big ones for 20+ years until I moved to south florida. Didn't miss a home game in my 6 years at AU.

Why I'm a fan of LSU
I grew up a LSU fan and had the honor and pleasure of spending 5 glorious years of my life attending LSU and earning a degree.
Your family sounds like it laid the foundation of the sidewalk. You and your dad should be ashamed of yourselves.

Wasn't really into football until I was about 12, which was 07. It was actually the Florida game. Georgia was the home team so I was rooting for them anyways. But when the dawgs scored the first touchdown and everyone ran to the endzone, I was hooked. Been a diehard UGA fan ever since.

I didn't really care about sports until I was 11, and growing up as a Duke fan in North Carolina, basketball was the big thing. Then I went to LSU, and there you go.
