Vandy is that nerdy cousin you talk to at the family reunion every year. Just because he doesn't hunt or fish like you do is no reason to kick him out of the family.
When they beat Georgia in 2006, some Georgia fans gave them a standing ovation.

The only actually right answer. We have to have a private school.

Why the hell should we? Vandy is a founder AND...:

BOWLS
--Clemson is .537 all time in bowls
--Vanderbilt is .563 all time in bowls

OVERALL RECORD:
--Clemson has a winning percentage of .610 while playing in a weaker conference these days and scheduling slaw in the olden days of the SIAA and short-lived Southern conference. THIS was when schools did their own scheduling and CU was weak as frick on that score.
--Vanderbilt has a winning percentage of 495 with conferences ALSO including the SIAA and shortlived Southern Conference plus the SEC rather than the ACC which has been either FSU OR MIAMI for much of its history.

CONFERENCE TITLES:
When they were in the same conferences....

--Clemson claims 6 conference titles when VU and CU shared conferences (4 SIAA, 2 SoCon)
--VU has 14 conference titles from that era (12 in the SIAA, 2 in SoCon).

FBS/National Titles:
--Clemson has 1. (2015).
--Vanderbilt has 2 although they don't claim them (prolly cuz they're so damned old).

ACC/SEC:
--Clemson has a losing record agains the SEC to put it mildly. They are 127-171-14 against the SEC.
--Vanderbilt has a winning record vs. the ACC: 64-61-6.

Head to head:
VU also owns the head to head against Clemson at 3-0-1.

tl;dr - What exactly do they add that helps?
I know for damn sure they can't replace VU's academics or hell even baseball.

Of course you can argue about super-modern times carrying more weight. I think it's more complicated than that. Also, But right now matters even as can make even the best of us blind when we ignore the past. No doubt CU is better off right now *but* historical success matters as much or more esp. given the probs VU has had and continues to face just to field a decent team.

One last bit before I go: recency bias is real yo.

Clemson has been to 48, Vanderbilt has been to 8

Because if they played every year Vandy would have a winning record over Clemson. Last meeting in 1960 btw

Miami joined in 2004. FSU in 1991 right before they went on one of the greatest run in their history by far

There was a top secret attempt a few years ago to add the AAC's Tulane to the SEC and send LSU to the AAC.

AAC nixed it because they did not want their league IQ to plummet.

I am afraid we are stuck with them.

The OP didn't say let's take a time machine back to 1918 and decide if Vanderbilt is a better fit than Clemson. If you're going after ancient tradition why don't you go ahead and invite Harvard? Some of your "facts" are wrong by the way. Clemson has two titles (post 1980) and Miami just got creamed in their first ever ACC Championship appearance. They've barely even sniffed winning their division since joining. You get an 'A' for effort though. That was a silly argument.

Is there a reason every other day there's a thread about which teams should be "kicked out of the conference"? These threads are pointless and aren't even worthy of discussion.

Clemson gives the SEC the only thing that matters: Dollar bills

3.8 Billion = Vanderbilt endowment (roughly 326,000.00 per student)

0.6 Billion = Clemson endowment (roughly 26.54 per student)

Either you are trolling or you failed basic 3rd grade math

The interest on the income alone dwarfs the Tater sports $$

Add in the academic prestige of Vanderbilt over Taters and this is a no brainer.
