Why don’t DB’s look for the ball anymore?

I know for a while now db’s are coached to respond when the receiver makes a move for the ball, however, to me there are a lot of times they would have intercepted the ball if they would have looked around.
Are interceptions up with this technique?

Keeping track of the receivers.

How about keeping track of the ball...I know that may be a new thought to u, but to each its own.

I wasn't being a dick. I'm just saying there is a risk to not keeping track of the receiver. That's why I think they're coached to not be looking for the ball too often.

The WR’s are now some of the best athletes on the field...that wasn’t always the case in football.
Every rule in foortball favors offensive production which has caused QB play to improve.
Plus...it’s hard.

Saban has taught faceguarding for nearly two decades now. It is illegal in the nfl because it works. So why not use it since it is legal in college?

Very DBs are good enough to keep up w a WR and be able to look back for the ball, they all go on to the NFL.

Isn't there a 3-second rule for covering a long pass? When you see the WR's eyes go up, count to three and turn. Problem is, only elite DBs can make the turn while maintaining coverage. Everyone else gives up separation, so the latter group is coached to mug the WR and take the penalty instead of giving up a score.

It's the hardest part of being a DB. You can play the ball in zone but in man coverage you are on the receiver. Add in smart receivers know how to trick the DB knowing the DB is reading him not the ball.

Our DBs do a great job locating the ball

maybe don't ask questions if you are going to get butt hurt over the response?

I would like to see the statistics, if possible, if this way of playing the receivers is resulting in more interceptions, and/or pass interference calls?

if a DB is not beat, he should turn his head and play the ball
if he's beat, he has to chase the WR and make up ground

you gotta run backwards at the same speed that the guy in front of you is running forwards.
That alone is probably one of the toughest things to do in all sports.
