I lived in downtown Memphis for 10 years after college.
Never once. Not a single time had an issue.
If you live in WM you better have a good life insurance policy
I guess AutoZone has it’s HQs downtown, FedEX just built new office downtown and Terminix is downtown because it’s so bad?
Guess there has been a massive boom downtown these last 10 years and it hasn’t slowed down at all cause it’s so bad?
Get out of here old man. You are lost.
Guess Speith and other golfers stay downtown cause it’s so bad?

Better send your kids to private schools
Well, yeah. Memphis city schools have been doing everything they can to incentivize private school since the 70s. Memphis probably has more private schools per capita than any metro area in the region, maybe even the country. It's kind of amazing. And only a handful of them are actually old schools.

Yep. I grew up in Bartlett and went to CBHS. Shelby County leadership has ruined the school system

Most are commuting from Shelby county suburbs is my point. While Cordova and Germantown are somewhat locked out from expanding further, Collierville still has plenty of annexed areas to expand and build more housing.
You’re so behind.
1. As pointed out above Houston is in Germantown and shares a border with Collierville. Collierville recently built the largest public school in the state. Memphis city schools were always separate from Shelby county schools. Collierville, Germantown, and Houston separated and created their own school system when Memphis city schools dissolved into Shelby County schools.

Also, there is two decent public HS in Memphis and that’s Houston High and White Station and you better be in AP classes at both or you are in trouble. If you live in Memphis you better send your kids to private school or they are in trouble

Houston is in Germantown and part of the Germantown school system
Serious question: Is Houston High considered nice now? I know theyve always had good sports but was less desirable of the Collierville/Germantown options as far as regular students. I went to Collierville 20 years ago and thats where our school and Germantown High sent all the kids that were kicked out. Also, isnt Germantown High part of SCS (formerly MCS) or did they get that worked out? If im not mistaken there was something weird where they couldnt be part of their own school district.

You are right about Houston.
The real Memphis area money lives in Memphis. Fred Smith, his kids ect. They live in one of the two spots in Memphis I pointed out.

Yes, it had I believe the highest test scores in the state last year. It's where everyone in Germantown goes to high school now. Shelby County kept Germantown High School (it's weird, I know) and those are just overflow kids from MCS now.

I'm around your age and that wasn't my experience at all. I grew up in Germantown but went to private school in Memphis. Regardless, I knew kids who went to all three of those schools. Germantown and Houston kids were basically the same and the zoning changed all the time. there were kids on my street who went to both schools. I always associated Collierville High School with the wanna be redneck kids (no offense

There was a huge state supreme court issue when Germantown and Collierville told MCS to frick off when they tried to absorb SCS. Memphis lost and received Germantown High School as a consolation prize. The by-product has been Houston and Collierville are great schools and run well. Cordova got fricked because they were too stupid to incorporate years ago and let themselves be annexed by Memphis.

They are what they always were. Less than Collierville/Germantown(at the time) but better than say Kirby. They’ve been moved ahead of Germantown now.

Kicked out as in expelled? Houston isn’t a secondary school.
Are you referring to rezoning?

They were.
Now Collierville Schools and Germantown municipal are their own system as I understand it.

Huh, guess im mistaken. I just seemed to remember when a kid got expelled they always ended up at Houston. And your assessment on Collierville kids is 100% spot on.

When kids got kicked out of school, Gateway is usually the alternative school they ended up (or Briarcrest

Briarcrest
My kids coach pitch team played Briarcrest back in the spring. You would have thought they were a travel ball team the way they showed up. Two teams coaches almost got in to a fight. It was trashy as hell and hilarious all at the same time.
