Why do the Tampa Bay Devil Rays not have as many fans as the Yankees? Why do they not have songs written about them?
Like it or not, Alabama is one of the top 3 college football programs of all time.

Doesn't everyone know that The New York Times writers are hacks? How dare an unbiased writer use some type of concrete data which shows AU has more fans nationally than UA?
I'd agree that UA has more fans within the state of Alabama, but when I travel around the country I see more Auburn gear than UA.

What I don't understand is I didn't see half this many bama fans during the Shula years. It's like you gumps come out of the woodworks. Or tralier parks, whatever.

Those methods were barely worthy of a high school project. The fact that you can't take the article and replicate what he did says it all. Took two unscientific data sources and then mixed 'em. Not to mention that he altered one set of data in a manner that he didn't disclose in detail.

I think the fan bases are mutually exclusive. Bama fans are NEVER going to be Auburn fans, and vice versa. You have a better chance of getting Baptists to turn Jewish.

A good portion of the data came from an unsecured online poll. The study used nothing at all resembling 'concrete data'.
UA is older, has more alumni, more students, and is generally regarded as one of the greatest programs of all time, with all the sidewalks that go along with that position. There is no possible way that AU has more fans than Alabama. None.

Alabama added 10,000 seats onto BDS while Shula was coach. A trailer joke from a fan of the trailer school is hilarious though.
