Texas is a huge soccer State, A&M would be competitive in short order if they chose to. Maybe after some more SEC money rolls in, right now A&M's got it's hands full with the Kyle redo.

Could a university add a mens team, and not a womens, if it was fully supported by an outside source?
say, i paid for everything, school didnt pay 1 cent.

I don't believe so, but I'm honestly not sure.

Exactly, because high schools across the country are erecting $100 mil soccer facilities
What does that have to do with what he said about being progressive?

St. Louis and Kansas City are hot beds of talent as well.

Because soccer is a boring eurotrash flopfest.
The NBA is quickly on it's way there, too.

Only because of the huge number of hispanics and Mexican nationals. It's no coincidence that most American soccer talent is either imported and nationalized or grows up in the southwest.

You clearly haven't watched enough soccer.

I'd be okay with having a soccer team as long as all of the games ended with 7-8 players a team.

1-0, 1-1,0-0 is not exciting.
Make the goal bigger and make the field 50 yards.

Means they need to be going at it. And I've watched a game that ended 7 vs 9. It happens, just not very often.

I'm a soccer ghey and all I have to say is if the SEC along with most other universities in this incredible country added soccer, the United States Mens National Team would benefit substantially. Too much talent is being wasted.
Look at the Great New Orleans area for instance, I could field a NCAA Tourney team by recruiting Jesuit, Brother Martin, St. Pauls, Grace King and in the Laffy area, Lafayette HS.

SEC Soccer would be awesome.

Outside of "Title 9", geography and historical influence play major roles. Ice hockey is a textbook example and glaring advocate for northern schools.
But I agree, I really like to watch soccer (live) and would like to see more schools in the SEC have their soccer programs be labeled as a "varsity" sport as opposed to a "club" sport.

And this attitude is a prime example of why the U.S. Men's team sucks arse.
Hurr durr.. if you're a guy and play soccer, you're gay... hurr durr.
