Why does Paul Bryant Jr. fear UAB so much?

Sounds like he has some serious power trip and control issues probably because he was a nobody compared to his dad.
He needs to let UAB be.
He needs to let UAB be.

This is coming from the UAB president, not the BOT.

He hates community colleges.

It's actually coming from a committee recommendation, which the president is listening to.

Why are LSU fans so mad about the UAB program?
Yall seem to be the only ones that care, maybe LSU can start funding them and pissing money away.

funny because all the administration at UAB seems to believe UAT fear is driving this.

I believe UAT has taken more money from UAB's medical profits than UAB could ever take from UAT.

Carol Garrison was the president in 2006, not current president Ray Watts.

Bryant doesn't have anything to do with all the restructuring going on at UAB. This is a function of their President.

its an amazing study watching how far bammers can completely disconnect from reality. what they are doing to UAB isnt much different than what they did to UAH recently over the NASA grants.

the current pres who was recently leading the charge for an on campus stadium all of a sudden decided to shut down football...this is logical to you?

Yea, We scared.
If ya'll are so "worried" about UAB throw em some money.
I doubt very seriously if LSU-Alexandria wanted to start a 1-A football team there would be many people at LSU doing all they could to see that they were competitive. I'm also sure that none of the branches of LSU have football by sheer coincidence. I've heard stories of former governors in LA doing all they could to seal Tulane as bottom dwellers back in the day. One eccentric former governor did all he could to make LSU the top dawg when Tulane was actually pretty good.
Also, the med school is profitable. UA put it in B'ham, UAB didn't just come up with that. All the profits they make are because UA set it up. Remember, these are not 3 equal branches. UA -Tuscaloosa is the mother campus. The others are satellites? Do you consider LSU's branches equal to the Baton Rouge campus? Would LSU fans be banging on doors for Shreveport and Alex to have equal representation in matters, particularly football. Would LSU fans take money away from their main campus and build a stadium for a branch so they could recruit?

It is not fear, Bama and Little Bear do not fear UAB. With that said, they do not like UAB, they want funding to their favorite child, UAT.
UAB needs its own BOT and complete autonomy. Athletics is a huge part of this. Without Football, the entire sports program at UAB will have to find a new conference

Uninformed people are uninformed.

UAB football LOST $17.3M last year. They've never been profitable. How long does the University system have to continue to subsidize sports for UAB? Is 20 years not enough? They aren't carrying their own weight. It's not hate. It's not fear. It's sound business.

Scarbinsky said on WJOX this morning that the Alabama BOT wants UAT to be "tFlagship" undergraduate program of the system and would prefer that UAB focus on grad school and med school.
Essentially, they want UAB to revert back to being a commuter school and hope to stunt the growth of UAB and to an extent the City of Birmingham. It's Good Ol' Boy cronyism at it's best but I'm sure there will be Bama fans that will blindly defend.
