We dislike it almost as much as you. It's a good song but it has been waaaaaay overplayed.
I blame its popularity for folks in general thinking of Skynyrd as some kind of joke band. Van Zandt was an incredible lyricist and the entire band could rock a fricking venue - they opened for the Who on a tour one year and blew them out of the water some nights.
Every one of their albums made pre-crash are fricking amazing.

Great song by Mr Petty. He was a true rock legend. I can remember him clear back to Damn The Torpedoes.
