The song has nothing to do with LSU, just the city of Baton Rouge as a whole.

Why would they take this song and make it a tradition? I heard that taking songs or songwriters that don’t have any allegiance to a school and making them into traditions is invalid. Any of you baws care to explain?

Is this your comeback to having nothing to do with Tom petty? I feel like this is your comeback to having nothing to do with Tom petty.

I'd guess because it has the name 'Baton Rouge' in the title and they love to shout the word LOUISIANA in the first line of the song.

No way this OP graduated from UF with these pathetic attempts at debate. Mental capacity is much too limited to receive a university degree.

I agree. The song has nothing to do with LSU and it's a recent "tradition" that came in with the increased use of the PA system to blast music at us.

I've never quite understood why Alabama played Dixieland Delight. Yes, the band who plays it is Alabama, but the song is about Tennessee.

There ya go.

Other than the reference to, "a Tennessee Saturday night", the song could be about anywhere in....Dixieland.

Ft. Payne is basically Tennessee, anyway.

The song is about a guy driving on Tennessee backroads, on a Tennessee Saturday night, with a girl (his dixeland delight). It's pretty clearly about Tennessee. I don't really care, it's just always been odd to me that Alabama of all schools played a song about Tennessee. Whereas the same band has songs called "My Home's in Alabama" and "Song of the South" that would make more sense. Just my two cents.

I'd go for Tennessee River, but that's just some river rat bias on my part.

So many good options - should probably just go back to the Shula playlist of 1970s songs and Allan Jackson over and over
