The reality is that he's enough down the athletic spectrum and has largely achieved what he has through working his arse off... and people don't want to recognize someone who's a lot more accomplished than they are despite not being an elite athlete.

They can look at a next level talent and say "Oh, he was just blessed with athletic gifts. That's why he's awesome. I'm okay with that.".

With Stet they just see a guy who tried harder than they ever could and it makes them feel bad about themselves.

Like cool dude, you were a undersized walk on now you’re a starter and will probably have 2 NCs under your belt. Like the dude didn’t come from nothing like a good majority of his teammates probably did. His mom and dad have their own fricking pharmacy for crying out loud.
