Those years FSU lost to Miami on the wide right stuff etc they clearly looked like they were perhaps the best team in the country if there was a playoff scenario. I know one year we knocked them out they would have been favored by Vegas to beat anyone if they made the game. Funny thing with Bowden was the first Championship in 93 imo ND should have played for it over them due to handily controlling them when they played each other that year.

I mean some people voted ND #1, but most didn't for good reason. Notre Dame was #1 after they beat FSU and only has themselves to blame for losing the next week. Both games at home.

Notre Dame sat at home on a bye the final week while FSU went on to beat #4 Florida and then #3 Nebraska in the bowl game(#2 in the game).

That was on top of FSU having already played a tougher regular season schedule because instead of asking for handouts, Bowden/FSU took on anyone and everyone who would play them.

Why should have Notre Dame stayed ahead of them? Really the H2H is the only real argument there. Which is decent, but everything else goes the way of FSU.

Yes, Kirby was a top-shelf Rudy. Colts cut him in training camp and didn't even keep him on as a practice player.

I don't think you know what a Rudy is.

Saw Josh Pate on a YT video last night where he said the only fair way to do a playoffs is to include EVERYBODY because somebody will complain about why certain teams were omitted.

Should College FB Conference Games Stop?

Discussion starts around 13:30.

ND handled them though. Take away Bowden not having a championship and ND plays for the championship instead of FSU.

Like many other parts of life, it has been harmed by the influence of huge corporations prioritizing profit above all else.

The more profitable it became, the more focused on profit it became, until we inevitably wound up with results like Cal in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Yep, he's exactly right. People like that should be the ones making decisions. He gets it.

The best team doesn't always win. Do you think Boston College is a better team than Notre Dame? If so, how can you rank Notre Dame #1?

Look at all the teams FSU beat compared to Notre Dame.

I get the H2H argument, some people agree with you. Most did not.

Gotta say, 1997 Indy bowl against Notre Dame in a packed stadium in 30 deg blowing rain/sleet, my arse was pretty damn happy sitting on frozen metal bleachers in a high school stadium.

Don't forget about undefeated WVU being left out in favor of...1 loss FSU.

It’s a common refrain here to knock the bowl season and how it’s meaningless, but I really did have fun at the 2012 Birmingham Bowl, even if they ran out of beer in the 2nd quarter.

In 2000, the Peach Bowl wasn't nearly as big of a deal as it is now. After the 90's it felt like the super bowl for me. I'm not opposed to a playoff system, but the collateral damage of making every non-playoff bowl game irrelevant is not good for college football.

No and rematch can differ but with how ND physically handled FSU take away the Bowden situation and ND gets to play for the championship.

Because it’s played by semi-pro mercenaries who have no connection or loyalty to the school & tradition has been sacrificed for dollars & admins are taking in billions while asking families to pay for NIL?

It was no where near the same. The very notion of being a NC contender is in itself extremely diminished. As you pointed out, it's now 5 teams instead of 1. It amazes me how quickly some of you throw equal weight on the label. As if making the playoffs now has the same meaning it did 2 years ago. Or in the quality of team it previously took to be a "contender". It's just dumb. Sure Alabama has a chance to win the NC this year, but we aren't really a national championship quality team and shouldn't remotely have a chance. In fact, if Alabama wins the NC this year it will be the worst Alabama team I've ever watched win a NC. I still hope we win it obviously, but it will be the 2nd year in a row a team that shouldn't even be in it wins it because they got hot at the right time. Call me old fashioned, but the participation trophy era generation is fricking retarded. Because that's all this bullshite is - oh look at me, I'm a contender! Yeah, so are a shite ton of other teams, it ain't that special anymore. We use to argue over who was the best team, now we argue over which 2 or 3 loss team should be included. And you expect me to pretend it's better.

Yeah, and it will never be enough. They will use the animosity over the selection criteria to keep adding more and more games, until 6-6 teams fans will be arguing who should get it. It’s a joke.

Kirby definitely was recruited on scholarship. But Kirby has said that Kirby the coach wouldn't have recruited Kirby the player. But you are right. Original post should've read "some of white guys on scholarship and the Rudys."

It doesn't really matter because there are tons of players with NFL experience who are still big fans of their schools and teams. In fact, most of them.
