The SEC sets the conference schedule. The teams then get 5 weeks to set 4 OOC games and a bye. Bama's open weeks seem to always be weeks 1, 2, 3, 9, and 12. The only logical place to take a bye is week 9 regardless of who is scheduled for week 10.

LSU used to be earlier in the schedule most years. Mississippi State was always the last conference game before Auburn. It seems like I remember it like that anyway.
