Why spend 100million if you don't have to? That said, more and more it feels like ESPN will try and work with the Big12 to help the exit. Rumors of the LHN becoming the Big 12 Network etc.
Fox has basically said no thanks to the big 12. ESPN no doubt doesnt want FOX to have all the preseason fan fare to themselves in 2024 when the cali schools join them.
So I could see ESPN sayin to the Big 12 here is the best TV deal you can get, let OU and Tex out for half or good luck with Amazon....
But again, why spend 100million to get there 2 years early?

b/c nobody wants to pay to break the contracts.
Texas and OU don't want to do it, ESPN doesn't want to do it, and the SEC sure as shite doesn't want to do it.

We have to let Houston go 2-0 against them before they leave.

quote:"Breaking" the contract is not really an option, if by that you mean, leave for the SEC anyway and dare the Big XII to sue you.
For texas and Oklahoma to come? I mean, I know why , but you would think they could break the contract and get in with it for everyone’s sake.
If OU and Texas leave before 2025 without striking a deal for an early exit from the grant of rights, that would mean that they would come to the SEC without the right to televise their home games. Imagine Bama playing an SEC conference game in Austin only to have Fox televise it as part of the Big XII package. That's what would happen if they leave without working a deal.
As to why they haven't worked a deal, we can only speculate, but the logical conclusion is that Fox has not been bought off, yet. There was a report the other day about ESPN offering to turn LHN into a Big XII networking and pay every Big XII member $8 million per year for their tier 3 content if they would let OU and Texas out of the grant of rights a year early. That probably sounds good to the Big XII, but if that resulted in Fox terminating the last year of the current Big XII contract (because the Big XII let the two best properties go), that would be a net loss. So, they will have to find a way to appease Fox in order for OU and Texas to get out early. It could happen, but anyone who knows anything about the contracts knew that getting around Fox was always going to be the highest hurdle to clear.

My guess is Texas is delaying the move. Most likely bc of them going 5-7 last year. They should easily win 8-9 games this year so maybe they decide to make the jump next year.

Money.
Oklahoma does not have enough and Texas who does will not make the jump without OU and will not give the Sooners the cash to split.
ESPN would just morph the LHN into the SECN.

Y’all are desperate to discount OU any chance you get, and I’m not sure why? We hate Texas also and have never been a rival of A&M….it screams insecurity lol, OU football is over A&M in brand value and blue chip ratio, and a top 8 program in revenue….from the Big 12. Sit the frick down

It was announced by the SEC leadership from the very beginning that we would join competition during the 2025 season. They have never waivered from that so I dunno what all the jibber-jabber is about.
Stop making shite up out of nowhere and read the original announcement.
Why is this so hard for people to read?

How did you build credit as a young adult?? You got a low interest Cc, charged a few things and paid it off each month. Or you hit your local Rent-a-center for that tv and stereo setup. Same with these broke dicks.... they just went to the SEC and we have money, but just not all of it

My post was not a negative one toward Oklahoma. OU does not have the money to make the jump or it already would have. That's all. No harm meant.
I have no ill will toward the Sooners. Just the LSU fans hiding behind their Okie alters.

Probably the most informative post I've ever seen on this topic.

I would be curious to see what school would make the jump to any conference and lose money in the deal? The only way the buy out would make any sense was if it happened last summer. Why pay 80 million to get to the SEC 1 or 2 years early?
Hold out, and force ESPN to pay it, hope the Big 12 crumbles and leave for free, or make the move in 2025. That has always been the options.
OU doesn't have 80 mil lying around, maybe 2 programs do, but if they did? Why spend that if you don't need to?
