He played well vs Alabama and they were probably the second best defense LSU faced.

If LSU is reliant on great QB at to be successful, I dont think they will get the outcome we all hope for.

I'm an LSU fan, and I think if they win a championship it will be because it's a good team. But I dont see Jayden carrying the team all season.

He isnt terrible, but he isnt great.

Felt like Burrow was running for his life fairly often that year and had to make a lot of plays with his legs.

Correct. The 2019 offensive line had a lot of warts covered up by Joe being able to scramble/elude rushers. We haven’t had a great offensive line since the Fournette days, but Kelly’s efforts there should really start to pay off this season and going forward.

To the OP, most of us think his ceiling is very high but questioning him is completely fair due to his bad games last year. Hell, a sizable portion of the LSU fan base would rather see Nuss. As far as ranking him top 3 in the conference, who would you put above him? Too many new starters or guys with question marks of their own, you could pick apart every one of the returning QBs.

He played well against UGA too, just had a freak INT and was playing on a bum ankle. Surprisingly, the whole team had a lot of positives to take away from that arse beating all things considered.

This.

Lsu will go into 2023 with a top 5 roster in talent, a second year/experienced HC, and key returning starters, Daniels among them.

If he safely manages the game and repeats his moments of sparking the team in key moments, LSU can be very good.

Very few times can a singular player be enough to win it all (Cam Newton being a notable exception). But, Daniels isn't going to be Cam. And, he doesn't need to be.

Look at Aggie and UTx, plenty of talent and average results. How that talent gels and having key on field leadership is as important as talent. Daniels can provide that and make them dangerous.

The 2020 Bama team was arguably less talented than the 2019 team. But, it was genuinely the most selfless team with a singular goal in mind in the Saban era, which is why they are among the best "TEAM" I've watched in CFB... covid year be damned.

Personally, after the way LSUs backup QB performed in the second half of the SECCG, I find myself wondering why Daniels is the starter.

He completed 2/3 of his passes for over 200 yards in one half against your defense.

And he did on a bad leg that prevented him from running.

I hear you Memphis playa. Was just pointing out that in this moment in time, most would consider LSU a close third behind Georgia and Alabama. This is just me, but right now I place Bama at 1, because of their body of work for the last 15 years or so, with Georgia making the move into the 1 position. This year will sort out a lot. Hopefully the tigers move up at least one rung on the ladder for the next good while.

Look at Joe Burrow’s first year and compare it JD. That’s the cause for excitement. Last year his job was not to lose games or turn the ball over.

This year with everyone back, LSU fans are obviously expecting much more but time will tell.

While we no doubt sucked against the run later in the year, the lack of a running game for the entire year is more of an issue imo. I think its a much bigger issue going into this year as we seemed to have addressed the defensive issue (depth, experience, and portal LBer signings) but have done little to address the backfield.

Last year there were 4 scholarship RB's. They all return and we added 4 more.

The SEC Media Days poll has ALABAMA making the playoff at 94%. LSU at 7%. What do they know that a cajun just doesn't get?

Is that the same poll that in 2022 predicted Alabama to win the west with 1262 points and all but 4 votes?

SEC Media Days has ALABAMA at 74% winning the West this season.

LSU at 20%

What do they know that all these bayou boys just can't comprehend due to the unfiltered water supply?

He's a good game managing QB imo. Not a bad player at all though.

Thank you for affirming what I was trying to say. Saban has proven he can replace players, coaches , and everything else he needs to maintain a high level of success year after year. Smart might be showing the beginnings of that at Georgia. LSU just a hired a new coach (and in my humble opinion the first real coach {at LSU} since Saban. We hope Kelly can install a program like Alabama’s and until it’s proven otherwise Georgia
