No they weren't moved to the south because of the scenery. It was all about the $. If you are a cheapskate business owner and can pay $20/hr to a blue collar guy up North or pay half of that to a Southerner, you'll pay less. Fine that's the guy's right. But then it's wrong to forget about the community that you leave empty. Why not realize that the Northern guy has mouths to feed, and he'd spend his money locally and keep another local business going? Why not invest in other programs to help the families out that you just left behind? You want to go that's okay, but don't leave environmental dumps everywhere, urban decay, angry jobless people who will turn to alcohol and drugs if they don't have another good-paying job to replace the ones that left? That's my only beef.

It's called life experience Robert Goulet. I lived in the North. I know people who told me that they were from down there. And yes, the IR is what built the things that we have all enjoyed over the years. Look up the great migration. Look up the term "honkey." It comes from a time when Hungarians came over to the US and we're working in the mines and steel hubs. Many people, mainly blacks, referred to the Hungarians as honkeys. Google is your friend. The south has every right to pursue life, liberty, family and wealth. I feel that as Americans, we all have that right. But it shouldn't come at the expense of other Americans.

Your post translated would read: "I am full of shite and have no proof". I lived in Tokyo for 3 years and met people from Tennessee. Guess what? There wasn't a great migration of Tennesseans to Tokyo that ruined pockets of the city.

General Sherman was a Yankee and old folks in Georgia are still pissed about the scorched earth.
Decades ago I was driving on a dirt road in South Georgia when I was waved over by a very old man standing in the road beside his pickup truck. As I got out of my car the old man yelled that he had a Yankee under his wheel. I walked up to his truck and saw that he had run over a huge rattlesnake.
I was born and raised in SW Georgia and as a child I faced mild discrimination because my father was from Indiana.
Nowadays, if a Southerner references "Damn Yankees" it is usually in good humor.
