Why do LSU fans rigorously defend Burrow but not Brennan

Both are first time starters at their current level who have yet to pick up a win. Both have been charged with throwing over 40 times a game and have the weight of the offense of their shoulders. LSU fans are quick to point out that the Bengals have lost not because of Burrow, but because of the O-Line and receivers. But why doesn’t Brennan get this benefit of the doubt? Over 80% of LSUs receiving yards from last year are gone. Including 2 All-Americans and the team’s passing coordinator

Perhaps more telling is how LSUs O-Line has changed. Last year they won O-Line of the year. This year their protection numbers have been awful. 2nd worst in the SEC

Stats - % of drop backs under pressure by Team/QB

Minimum 20 drop backs

From PFF College Stats

1. Alabama - Jones (24 DB, 2 P) (8.3%)
2. Georgia - Bennett (32 DB, 6 P) (18.8%)
3. Auburn - Nix (30 DB, 6 P) (20.0%)
4. South Carolina - Hill (43 DB, 10 P) (23.3%)
5. Kentucky - Wilson (42 DB, 10 P) (23.8%)
6. Florida - Trask (43 DB, 11 P) (25.6%)
7. Texas A&M - Mond (30 DB, 8 P) (26.7%)
8. Tennessee - Guarantano (34 DB, 10 P) (29.4%)
9. Vanderbilt - Seals (33 DB, 11 P) (33.3%)
10. Georgia - Mathis (22 DB, 8 P) (36.4%)
11. Arkansas - Franks (43 DB, 16 P) (37.2%)
12. Missouri - Robinson (28 DB, 11 P) (39.3%)
13. Ole Miss - Corral (42 DB, 18 P) (42.3%)
14. LSU - Brennan (57 DB, 25 P) (43.9%)
15. Mississippi St - Costello (65 DB, 30 P) (46.2%)

Using the logic regarding Burrow and the Bengals, LSU fans should be passionately defending Brennan. But they do not seem to be. What is the reason for this?

Well, seeing as neither have a win this season, I wouldn’t defend either

Just curious, but who did LSU lose from last year's OL that was so good.

Because Burrow had the greatest season of all time for us last year and moved up a skill level. Brennan is in the same position as Burrow was last year and people are expecting the same results as Burrow produced. Unrealistic expectations. Geaux Tigers.

He had more time to throw than anyone else in the SEC. He held it too long. Also he's been in the program for four years ffs

Two day 1 NFL starters. Damien Lewis for Seatle and Lloyd Cushenberry for Denver. Saahdiq Charles was also drafted.

I defend Brennan. He didn't lose that game. He didn't do great, but he wasn't horrible. Not bad for first time starting.

Brennan is better than Matt Flynn was early on so give Brennan a chance . He might end being better than Joey Foosball.

I mean, a lot of LSU fans have defended Brennan. The consensus is that this loss was not on him. He did show some concerning traits during the game that Burrow never does, like hesitation and missing open receivers.

Your question is better phrased as who didnt they lose.

At least Burrow has been a bright spot on his team. I believe in Brennan but to say he was one of the best players on the field on Saturday would be ludicrous.

Also considering the fact that Costello is 15th on that list yet put up over 600 yards doesn't help Brennan's case either

Better than Matt Flynn, come on man like creepy Joe says. Matt Flynn would have found the open receivers against Miss St. His decision making wasn't there Sat, maybe lack of playing time. He's a 4th yr player, time to shine, don't blink.

Look -- LSU lost to fricccc Troy couple yrs ago ...they lost to Miami of Ohio once , Not Miami ,Fla ..Miami of Oxford ,Ohio ..may have been Big Ben that tore them up ..Lets just pump the brakes on the Moo State loss and Brennan. He will be ok . Defense is the problem not Brennan..

You're only showing half the story. Compare what both accomplished under pressure and you'll see the obvious answer.
