Because Kentucky fans are the jilted lovers to the extreme over Cal. They brought it on themselves, only exacerbated by the terrible hire of Pope to replace him.
The reality setting in that they are the next Indiana has made them an angry bunch too.

It’s like the old Looney Tunes scene where the coyote and the sheepdog clock in to work to start hating each other during business hours.
It’s just what we do.

Because back in '85 Sitton "crawled" to Kentucky to be their head coach.

It is the same as the Mike White shite. Both teams want the other team to suck so they can say it was a bad/good hire.

There is a certain amount of ill will because they tricked us into hiring Calipari.
Nah, I'm joking. There is a bit of back and forth over the Coach Cal thing but the two schools have spent decades trying to build a low key sports rivalry. Arkansas vs Kentucky in basketball was white hot when Arkansas joined the SEC. That has faded quite a bit but once a rivalry puts down roots it tends to stay around.
If the SEC can get both programs hot again it would be a massive boost to men's basketball across the conference.

I think it goes back to when Arkansas came into the SEC.
This is Kentucky's conference in basketball (like it's Alabama's in football), despite the runs LSU had made with Dale Brown. LSU had won some SEC titles, but no natties. At that point it was still only Kentucky, if I recall correctly.
Arkansas came in with 40 Minutes of Hell, took the conference, and won a national title. First true challenge to Kentucky's supremacy.

I know. You are imitating North Carolina.

I have no idea why UK hates Arkansas so much. They cried hard for a few years wanting Cal gone, so he left. Now they hate him for leaving? Make it make sense! They thought they were prestigious enough to hire whoever they wanted as if they were Duke, but when that delusion busted open they couldn’t handle it
