And yet....didn't. Every team that wins a Natty can say the same thing. You can ALWAYS point to a game or two that could have gone the other way...but they didn't. If it is so easy to change a game with 1 or 2 plays..then why didn't LSU do it the past couple of years?

Whoa, there big boy. Alabama fans seem to want to forget what the 10 years prior to Saban was like.

Bamatab Why Do Alabama Fans Think They Will Beat LSU? I'm just going by the trend indicators of the chart that was provided.

So, I guess that Bama was in decline after the 2010 season because they went 14-0 in 2009 and 10-3 in 2010.

This is all just dumb. Teams that are winning 10-11 games in the SEC every single year are not in decline or competitive with the likes of Bama.

But, I guess that LSU is different. Les Miles is an idiot, will never have LSU in a potential place for victory again, and we are sliding to 6-7 win territory after averaging 10 wins a season for the past decade or more.

So sayeth the SEC Rant.

True. LSU is not in decline. I'm not sure they should be expecting 11+ wins this year, as some seem to think, but come next year, they should be ready to make yet another run at the Natty. AND, with a touch of luck could do it this year. Things could either swing very good or very badly for them this year...depends on the breaks.

Coach Bombay: A quarter of an inch, Charlie.

Charlie: Yeah, but a quarter of an inch the other way and you'd have missed completely.

Coach Bombay: I never thought of it that way.

Charlie: At least you got to play in a championship game, that must've been so cool!

I don't disagree with this at all.

The only times that Les has won less than 10 games in his tenure here was 2008 and 2009 when he had HORRIBLE offensive production and HORRIBLE QB play to the point of embarrassment. Still, he won 8 and 9 games when other teams would have not had winning seasons. The reason for it is because of his formula - defense, running game, keep games close to the vest, win in the end.

I honestly think that LSU will be more dynamic on both sides of the ball this year and that we will have higher scoring games more like the 2007 team than teams the past few years. And yes, things could go either way. We will see.

So to summarize this thread, a poster is asking why another fanbase has an opinion of what their team can do when he himself is heavily opinionated about his own team and their chances.

Ask yourself why you're so confident about LSU. There is your answer.

I'm just trying to figure out why there are so many Ole Myth fans in here talking shite? When you have an athletic program that is even remotely relevant then you may be able to talk a little bit but for now sit back and enjoy mediocrity!

I was watching the highlights of that game last year and Mettenberger played out of his mind and LSU's offense went up and down the field on Bama's vaunted D. LSU returns 9 starters on offense and will be stronger on the offensive line than last year and will have an OC who is clearly more accomplished than our offensive line coach was an OC.

Mettenberger played the best game he will ever play. And still, LSU lost. At home. To a freshman on a screen.

9-10 wins in the worst case scenario for LSU.

We have too much talent and too good of a coaching staff to do worse than that.

Because in the game of the century in 2011 the option run by JJ gave Bama some trouble and helped win LSU the game. We all saw how well Bama adjusted to that on 1/9. I suspect Saban will come up with a plan to not let Mett go off like that again. I could be wrong and Bama could pull an AU like 0-8 in the SEC this y

there is a big difference in game planning for the option which is maybe 2-3 actual plays than gameplanning against a QB and WR core that carved up your defense for 300 yards using a multitude of routes, pass catchers, and formations.

not to mention we actaully have an offensive coordinator right now, not a OL coach splitting duties.

Look, your team is proven and your coach is proven. But the OP acts as if Alabama fans are crazy for thinking they will beat you. As proven as your coach is and as proven as your team is...Alabama has better credentials the past 4 years. Their fans have every right to expect their team will beat yours. And, you have every right to think your team will pull the upset...I mean, you HAVE played Bama close almost every game. It can be done, and I like your chances as well as anybodys.

What was the deal with your OL coach splitting duties? I don't remember. Why didn't you have a legit OC?

All this ranter chatter over such a simple question.

Saban > Les
McCarron > Meth

That is all.

kragthorpe was brought in as OC but got Parkinson's so the OL coach Greg Studrawa ran the offense last year. LSUs OL play took a big hit compared to where they were in 2011 and they only lost 2 guys off the 2011 OL.

The offensive situational playcalling should be much improved and that is really all they needed last year. Not to mention, OL coaching, overall preperation, QB coaching should all be improved.

If it's not with Cam, I'm giving up on it forever.

This is to all Alabama fans who think LSU's loss of players on Defense is going to be a problem. Lets not forget Alabama lost only 3 less guys to the NFL than LSU did. But anyway, this is about LSU...

Here are the starting replacements that got plenty of playing time last year. LSU started or gave significant playing time(65% of the games) to 15 freshman. Some due to injury of the starters or some due to just plain awesomeness. It doesn't matter, John Chavis could probably take freshmen, sophomores, or juniors in "High School", and beat any college team like a Drum!!!
Here is how 2013 is shaping up...

Defensive Line - Starters:
Jermauria Rasco DE 6-3 262 Jr.
Jordan Allen DE 6-6 254 Jr.
Anthony Johnson DT 6-3 294 Jr.
Ego Ferguson DT 6-3 309 Jr.
Defensive Line - Backup/Rotation:
Danielle Hunter DE 6-6 241 So.
Justin Maclin DE 6-4 242 Jr.
Lewis Neal DE 6-1 238 Fr.
Tashawn Bower DL 6-5 243 Fr. - Can rotate from DE to DT.
Quentin Thomas DT 6-3 290 So.
Christian LaCouture DT 6-5 298 Fr.
Maquedius Bain DT 6-4 308 Fr.
Greg Gilmore DT 6-4 311 Fr.

I admit that the interior portion of the line is not as deep with experience, but the 2 starters are probably the best in the country. DE has 1 starter that is as dominate as Sam Montgomery. Jordan Allen might not be as athletic as Mingo, but there are very few who are. But still there is no concern on the Defensive Line.

Linebackers - Starters
D.J. Welter LB 6-1 226 Jr. - Mike LB(Middle LB)
Lamin Barrow LB 6-2 232 Sr. - OLB/Mike LB(Middle LB)
Tahj Jones LB 6-2 205 Sr. - OLB
While D.J., Lamin, and Tahj are probably the starters, we are so deep at LB its crazy. Some of these guys listed may be starters.
Linebackers - Backup/Rotation/Starter
Kwon Alexander LB 6-2 218 So. - Possible Starter
Deion Jones LB 6-2 208 So. - Mad Skillz
Jarrett Hardnett LB 6-2 246 Sr. - Exp. Possible Starter
Lamar Louis LB 6-0 220 So. - Rotation
Ronnie Feist LB 6-2 225 So. - Rotation
Kendell Beckwith LB 6-3 246 Fr. - Although Freshmen, Possible Starter
Melvin Jones LB 6-3 245 Fr. - Very, Very Underrated by ESPN, Rivals, Scout, etc... Camp notes show that he could start at the Mike LB position which is unbelievable.

We are unbelievably deep at LB. No issues there.

Safeties - Starters
Craig Loston S 6-2 209 Sr.
Ronald Martin S 6-1 218 Jr.
Safeties - Backup/Rotation/Starter
Rickey Jefferson DB 5-11 199 Fr. - Has been highly discussed as the other starting Safety. He is a converted WR that has been compared to Eric Reid because of his size, str, athletic ability to have safety size with excellent corner coverage abilities.
Corey Thompson S 6-2 212 So. - Rotation/Possible Starter
Micah Eugene S 5-11 188 So. - Rotation

Not much to say at corner as we return 2 So. corners who started every game last year as freshmen and did a hell of a job at it. The depth is just as good. Jerry Brazil is the Corner with 4.3 40yrd. speed. Very excited about him. He will be doing returns as well.
Jeryl Brazil DB 5-10 189 Fr. - will not only be used as a corner, return guy, but also as a scat back.

The offense looks unstoppable!!! Nuff said.
