Because now there's 3 games people will watch instead of 1.

I would have preferred a playoff system that utilized the BCS rankings. It shouldn't have been thrown out.

2 reasons:
2004 Auburn 13-0 (left out) - first devastating blow
2011 Alabama 11-1 (put in w/ a 1-1 record vs ranked opponents) - the last straw

Because the ratings for the LSU/Bama national title game were shite.
The new system is rigged so it is harder from two teams from the same conference or region to play each other for a national title.

Basically everything was fine 10 years ago
The problem was 6 major conferences looking for 2 spots
Literally the ONLY thing that needed to change was an 8 team playoff
I liked the conferences and varying types of scheduling, etc that made them all unique

Control
With the bcs formula, they only could control the inputs to varying degrees. After that, they were stuck with whatever the formula produced. Now, they have total control. This is to make sure that 2 teams from the same conference don't get in unless there are extenuating circumstances.

SEC fatigue and regional matchups created the playoff. The BCS ranking system should have been kept around to determine playoff and the playoff obviously has been an inferior setup compared to the BCS.
