get what, that they get free education, room and board. free meals. no player coming out of high school is worth a million dollars. I don't care what you say!

Just look at the mess we are in. They are now pro players, no longer college players and really need to treat them as such.

Because the every day fan will end up bearing more costs to an already overpriced product. Absolutely insane to pay taxes, club fees, tickets, parking, etc. Now just add NIL to it. Just will end up pushing more fans away from college football.

Well put! Never thought of it like that, but makes sense.

During Covid they were replaying old college basketball games. I watched UNC vs Georgetown. There were 5 future NBA hall of famers playing. Youngest was soph Michael Jordan. If you’re old enough to remember how good college basketball used to be you’d recognize what a shiteshow todays game is.

Different circumstances for sure. But forever denigrating a once great sport just the same. Football on the fast track to doing the same. Nothing grumpy about it

The overwhelming majority of schools already lose money on athletics.

They don't believe in capitalism and they would rather have poor kids stay broke because for some reason they feel they would be more dedicated to their team.

If Bama is negatively affected by NIL then so be it, but the way NIL has changed some of these young kids lives is worth it for me.

The spirit of the new system revolved around the notion that Todd Gurley should be able to sign some bobbleheads for $600 and AJ Green should be able to sell his jersey, without being suspended for it.

And that is a noble position to take.

Everything the detractors told the supporters of NIL would happen, happened. In fact, as a detractor myself, it's even worse than I predicted.

Everything that is supposed to bring parity to CFB works the exact other way around.

Honest answer ? It falls into a few different answers. People don't like change - and its a change. People also are jealous by nature - they don't like the idea that an 18 year old will get a check bigger than they can get for ten years wages, just for committing to a school to play ball. Final answer - most people look at economics as a zero-sum game. Any money going to the players might, in ways they can't explain yet still suspect, cost them in the wallet when they just love their "free" Saturday TV entertainment.

And at the end of the day - I'd never give a ball player money, because I see no reason to. But if I wanted to ? I wouldn't care about anybody else's opinion on how I spend my money. Didn't care before NIL. Don't care after. It's MY money. I'll roll it and smoke it if I wish.

Capitalism is fans spending money to support a product it wants to see and withholding money from a product it doesn’t want to see. Make college too much like the NFL and you lose consumers, which won’t benefit the players in the future if too many consumers reject that product. That’s capitalism.

I watch college football for my own entertainment, not as a charity donation. If the product gets bad enough where I don’t enjoy it, I won’t support it. It has nothing to do with wanting poor kids to stay poor.

It may lose some consumers but the NFL model poses a better chance of making worthwhile games than the current model. NIL brings a shot for every program to potentially field a quality team, TCU is one example. Also, capitalism in it's purest form is a free market. In a free market, all athletes have a chance to provide their talents to the highest bidder that will do more for the kids and their families in the long run than not having NIL at all.

That's great. Would you trade your salary for this?

A fabulous question. Yet, even that doesn't hit to the crux of the issue, in my not nearly close to humble opinion.

None of the folks opining about how tuition, books, room, and board should be enough can actually PLAY college football at a Division I level. So who gives a shite ? I don't give a shite about their opinion, anymore than I give a shite about those who think my hourly rates are too high. Don't like them ? Then don't buy them. Or don't watch.

Its the same old song and dance. Certain folks ... very loud folks ... who really, really like their Saturday entertainment. It makes them feel better that the kids are playing because they "love the school" as much as those same old dudes that nobody would pay a nickel to see stumble through a round of shuffleboard.

Are you trying to say that everyone hates black people and most athletes are black and whitey don't no like rich, black athletes?

If that's what you're trying to say, say it. Don't be a pussy.

I don't like all the money in entertainment period. Sports, movies, tv. I think there are much more important professions that take just as much effort and expertise.

Like doctors that actually save peoples' lives. Oh, and I even don't mind paying black doctors lots of money for saving peoples' lives. Am I racist?

Take your race card and shove it up your arse.

Because so many of them are salty over the concept of an 18 year old with no degree making more money in one year than they'll ever make in their entire pathetic lives.

Well, if the player doesn't perform to expectations, kick them off the team and cut their scholarship. They are employees now. Got to perform or lose your job.

Mind telling me the primary purpose of higher education?

Hint: it's not sports.
