Whoever Bama hires, it will be a step down. They cannot match Saban's ability.

That is a fact. No one can be what Saban was.

Even if you make a great hire (I think Norvell would be awesome), it still will be several steps below Saban.

That is awesome for the rest of us in the league. We don't have to fear the next guy, because the next guy will 100% be lees than what they had.

Saban is the GOAT, much respect.

That is correct.... except the part where you don't have to "fear" the next guy.

Fear is emotional. You don't even know who the next guy is, yet. And if you don't respect who we get, then you may under-estimate him.

Did anyone really fear Saban/Alabama though?

Saban’s ability matched the environment. He was a perfect fit. But with the new CFP structure and NIL that is no longer the case. He left at the exact right time. Best wishes to him in retirement.

I respect all opponents ability, even the lesser ones.

Saban had a mystique. You could be up on him in the 4th quarter and everyone on Earth knew he would will his team back. That pit in the stomach feeling even when winning. No other coach has ever made me as a fan feel like that

You'll hire a great coach taht I will respect. Bama will still win a lot of games I'm sure, especially first couple of years. But it's just going to be different.

Agree with this.

I can't imagine these kids already in the program walking up to Saban and demanding money to stay. And you know it's happening.

Completely agree with this perspective. And I don't think any Bama fan believes that we will hire someone that matches Saban. I think we would like to hire an elite head coach, who can navigate the new CFB environment. Just because the GOTA leaves doesn't mean you have to downgrade to trash

I'm honestly thankful that we got to watch Saban for 17 years. No bitterness about his retirement from me. I think he timed it perfectly, and I think he is trying to do his best to leave UA in a good situation. I hope he enjoys retirement
