I guess you're forgetting the game the Tide and Dawgs played earlier this month.
It was already #basketballszn for Auburn by the time January rolled around.

This is unpopular with my fellow Aubies but……it is what it is….
Today is January 25 and Gwinnett is the biggest county in the state of Georgia and has been open for recruiting for a month now. Not one school has seen an Auburn recruiter.
One D1 Coach recently stated that as long as Auburn keeps the current staff, his team would be good.
Long road ahead.

When was the last time Tennessee even came close to going to Atlanta in early December?

2016 we should've gone. Beat both UF and UGA and then committed suicide against SC and VU (and those were both bad versions of SC and VU teams). 2015 we lost to UF but we finished the better team. Those two years should've both been East titles.

Tennessee will never win another championship because that is not the admins goal. The focus will be on academics and making bowl games. They simply do not care about winning.

Auburn’s only got to deal with Saban in the west for another 5-6 seasons.

Tennessee’s got to deal with Kirby for much longer.

I’d pick Auburn.

You're about to find something out... SEC losses count the same whether they're against East or West. Auburn has the exact same problem with Kirby that we do.

But tbh, I'm not worried about Kirby as a coach. I'm worried about our own recruiting. Whether or not we figure out NIL will determine our level of success more than anything Kirby does coaching wise.

There's a good chance Auburn (and Bama) will be in the East after this year.

I don’t see UT getting many head to head victories over Georgia which is what they’d need to get to Atlanta.

Auburn’s already gotten several over bama under Saban and will get many more when he’s gone. That’s the path to Atlanta.

We’ll see how NIL shakes out though. A&M appears to be a strong team in the future.

The West would be terribly imbalanced if that's so. I know they want to stick together but it makes more sense to move one.

OU and Texas to the West.
Bama and Auburn move to the East.
Mizzou moves to the West.

The teams that have won SEC titles this century are: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU. I do not see any other schools winning an SEC title anytime soon.

I really hope we don't do pods. The simplest thing would be keeping divisions and adding another conference game.

Head to head doesn't matter that much because all wins and losses count the same. A loss to UGA will keep Auburn at home just as losing to BAMA keeps us at home. Put it to you this way - UK finished second in the East despite the fact that we beat them head to head but the Vols had 1 more SEC loss because they played BAMA. If UGA turns out to be like BAMA (and I honestly don't think they will**) Auburn will have the same problem UT does - that permanent cross div will put you behind everyone else in your div.

**I think Kiby is closer to a Dabo or Jimbo than Saban. He's going to build tough teams but I don't see anything near the invincibility Saban had going for a while.

Right they don't come anywhere close to BAMA or Auburn. Oklahoma barely eeked out wins against a 5-7 UT team and later needed Baker Mayfield to beat them in OT.

Maybe not, but he's always beat the Vols like a drum.

Those aren't bad coaches. I think Saban has skewed folks perceptions about what constitutes a good coach and success. I think Kirby will continue to build really good teams and that those teams will be in play but that's a far cry from the invincibility Saban had built up for several years.
