SEC championship game, was East vs West, no we no longer have divisions. The entire premise of the SECCG has been removed.

No one.
Winning or losing a league championship game will impact rankings, seedings, whether or not a team gets a bye, or whether or not they have to go on the road to a hostile stadium. A team can improve their position and move into the top 4. It would be stupid to tank a conference championship game.

There’s a playoff to crown a national champion.
No one cares about a conference championship aka participation trophy.
When there were only four teams and before that they absolutely meant something, now it's a trophy that if you lose you can hurt your playoff rank, but they do mean something to players and fans.

Some end of year rivalries will potentially suffer as well.

I think you are going to see teams sitting players to rest "old injuries they have been playing through" etc.
Sure, the report will say he has been banged up for weeks and needs to recover.
when you get to week 10 and beyond, who isn't "banged up"?... every player who sees significant playing time is dealing with minor injuries. that's just part of the grind at that point in the season.
Yea I can definitely see that happening. But it's not going to be sitting 9 starters or anything like the NFL in week 17.
Again, if that starts happening, they'll get rid of the game and expand the playoff a round or something. Because that version will get ridiculed and the money train will slow down.

Imagine that... the first response is regarding LSU.

Do you want your bye during the conference title games or do you want your buy during the first round of the playoffs? Which one is better for "your" team? If I had no interest in playing a conference title game I'd make sure we didn't get there. Teams can do that, it would piss a lot of people off, but if that's their strategy, then so be it. They have that right. I'm a traditionalist so I covet conference titles and would hate to see them eliminated. But as we get further into the playoff model I'm afraid they're going to go the way of the rotary phone.
I prefer the bye to be in the playoffs. Some injuries may be able to heal in a week all things being equal so if a player gets injured in the game I would like as much time for them to heal. Also getting the bye in the playoffs allows for an extra week to prepare for that specific opponent and it being more fresh in their minds as opposed to just the week to prior.

Me too. I'd rather have the bye in the first round of the playoffs. You have a better idea of who you're going to play and can realistically game plan.

It’s still up in the air if teams will be punished for losing championship games. Additionally, they may be punished further if they were obviously resting their players. I certainly wouldn’t want to be the first team to do it.
I think there is a good chance the loser of the ACC Championship Game and possibly the Big12 Championship game get left out this year if you're going to automatically take the highest ranked conference champions that is 5 teams. Notre Dame is going to make 6 almost every season. The loser of the P4 conference championship games is 4 more making 10. That leaves 2 at large spots.

Its not even really a bye though because you're playing an extra game with the conference championship game while half the playoff teams are sitting at home.
Play an extra game to potentially get a bye, it doesnt make any sense.
Its also the next Saturday and then a long layoff if you are the winner. So you are facing a very good and probably playoff team one week after your season closes while everyone else is healing up and then its a 3-4 week lay off to the 1/4 finals and that is over the holiday so you are away from campus a good bit of the time and it provides an awful lot of opportunity for 20 year old millionaires to get up to all manner of ill shite. Winning a conference title is great but its significance has dwindled with the CFP.

This coupled with a 9 game conference schedule could well end the rivalry between SEC and ACC teams...UF/FSU, USC/Clem's son, UGA/GT and UK/ Louisville may not last much longer. GT is not hosting clean old fashion hate in Mercedes Benz stadium for a $10 Million payout when its their year to host and there is no logical reason for UGA to continue to contribute that sort of cash to GT. I'd hate to see it happen but it very well might. Neutral site games are also on the chopping block

Going to a new years bowl is just a big of a deal as it was before? If anything its a bigger deal. During the BCS era it meant you weren't playing for the natty.

To get a top 4 seed and a bye and if you are a lower ranked playoff team prior to the game assuring you don't get knocked out of the playoff by another lower ranked team winning their conference game.

Well, I think the value of the SECCG was pretty much settled in the 90s and it proved to be extremely useful.
But it's lost it's value with the playoffs.

Tell that to the team that could get knocked out by a lower team winning a spot by winning their conference game or a prior 4 seed that loses a bye week by another team passing them for winning their conference game.
