Sure it does. If O wins 8 or 9 regular season games for the 3rd year in a row why would you keep him if the reason Miles was fired was to get to "the next level"? It makes no rational sense. He's doing exactly what Miles did and what Miles did apparently was not good enough for them. I'm not arguing that he should be fired. I'm trying to figure out why Miles winning the same amount of games O is winning got him fired but won't even have O on the hot seat after 3 and a half years.

This isn't true. Miles was fired (which was a mistake in my opinion ) because he was unwilling to change his philosophy on the game. O has changed alot in an effort to have different results.

Saban fired.
Assistant coaches get tired of getting blamed, pick fight with him. He's caught on tape hitting one with a left hook.

I agree that firing Miles was a mistake (if your course of action is to hire Ed in his place). I also do not think firing Ed would be the correct move if he stays on his current course. I just wanted to hear someone's reason behind the difference in the 2 because up until this point the results are pretty similar.

Firing Les Miles was not a mistake. He’s the most overrated coach of all-time.

God willing Orgeron stays at LSU for the next two decades

Firing Miles was not a mistake. Miles couldn't recruit or develop a qb to save his life. He had no interest in firing Cam or changing philosophies on offense.
D line recruiting had slipped precipitously under Miles. The last first round d lineman that Miles recruited was Brockers. Games are still won in the trenches and LSU was losing those battles. The narrative that LSU has been loaded with talent is one of the biggest misnomers by LSU fans and the media. Les had evolved into a donut recruiter. Highly ranked wr's, db's and rb's. The o line and line recruiting as well as qb recruiting wasn't up to par.
O didn't have a stacked team when he took over. Right now he's going gangbusters with d line recruiting which is necessary if he wants to compete with the big boys. Brady will be the de facto oc this year, a change O knew had to happen. IMO this will be Ensmingers last season in the booth. O has added to the shadow staff something Saban has done at Bama to give them an edge.
The whole Les got fired for winning 10 games every season is wrong. The last time LSU won 10 games under Miles was 2013.

Didn't coach O just get an extension
LSU returns a ton from a 10 win team, and expectations are high. Like, Les Miles level expectations again- we expect 11-1. 10-2 is acceptable but probably a bit disappointing, 9-3 will anger the mob, I think 8-4 could get him canned.
You say that, with road games against Texas, Alabama, Miss State, and home games with Auburn, Florida and A&M... stranger things happen every year.
I hope not
Luke's the expected goner, with Gus having a big target on his back.

Les Miles won a national title his 3rd year at LSU. I don't think it's going to happen for Orgeron.

Ok, well if firing Miles was not a mistake then keeping Orgeron after he wins 8 or 9 regular season games for the 3rd year in a row would be a mistake as well. If you don't think so, then please show your work because it makes no sense.

Yet he was still doing exactly what Ed is doing right now and you aren't wanting Ed fired. If you think LSU has ever had a talent problem in the last 20 years I would like to sell you some beach front property in Nebraska.

I think it is too early in their careers for a U to fire a coach. Look for a coach in year 4 or 5 who is under performing. Only one that fits this would be Gus.

he would only get fired if said coach died.

Here's your first clue.

Do you want a pat on your back?
I haven’t made one statement about Orgeron. I’ll wait and see how the season unfolds first. Not every 8 or 9 win season is the same.

Well of course you will wait and see how the season unfolds. That's the whole point of this thread. To discuss what would happen if the season unfolded poorly. In the eyes of LSU fans 8 or 9 regular season wins was poorly enough for Les to get fired. Saying not every 8 or 9 wins in the regular season is the same is pretty hollow when it will be the 3rd straight of those for Ed (if it happens).

Firing Miles showed the fans LSU is not going to be complacent and accept mediocre. If the worst thing to happen is O keeps stocking the pantry with top 5 recruiting classes while LSU builds the new facilities then gets fired and the job looks that much better to a big name coach to come next I'm sure the fans could live with that
Oh yeah. frick Gus

Get your facts straight dumbass...Miles was let go because he refused to change offense
Posted on 7/24/19 at 7:34 am to tiger chaser
First to get fired is Luke or Malzahan. If Malzahan puts in a subpar year, the Aubies will want him gone.
Posted on 7/24/19 at 7:37 am to tiger chaser
So it's ok to win 8 or 9 games a year as long as you change offenses? I mean I'm a dumbass, so I need to know all of the rules. As long as I keep changing shite I can keep a job forever even though my results are no better than the previous guy who got fired? At what point is Ed going to get held to the same standard as the guy who actually won a national title for your school?
