Good to hear because baseball in a big deal in Missouri too! We have two pro teams one of which is the King of the National League with 12 WS titles!!

How many pro baseball teams are in your state?

Unfortunately for Mizzou many Missourians get their baseball fix via the Cardinals or for an unlucky few, the Royals.

I wouldn't worry about those pesky little Ole Miss fans. They claim baseball is huge in their state, but the state has never produced a world series title in college OR - dare I say it - the majors. Who woulda thunk it?

Gotta get rid of Perno somehow

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I want us to win as many games as possible. But I just don't think our coaching staff has it in 'em. They'll be gone (fingers crossed) by the end of May.

No, we sound like a state this has more going on than just college sports. 2 MLB teams, 2 NFL teams, Professional Hockey, etc.

Missouri isn't a one trick state like most of the SEC. Remind me how many pro teams are in r kansas?

Hmm, Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Texas all seem to be able to support both college and pro sports. If you're going to demean a college sport, why are you posting on a college board?

Is college baseball a primetime event nationally? No, not hardly. But most of the SEC has managed to push it to a pretty big event, and it comes close to breaking even, or even being profitable at some schools. Given your apparent affinity and affection for it, it should be a bigger deal there than it is.

Point taken however Missouri doesn't have near the population that Florida, Texas or Georgia do.

TN and LA compare population wise but fall out when you consider that Missouri has 5 pro sports teams to support.

I'm not knocking SEC ball, I am just defending my home state. We aren't bad fans we are just spread thin.

I guess all of you have season tickets to every SEC sport going along with all your professional sports too? Must be nice to have that much cash to play with.

If there were 10 MLB teams in Fayetteville I would still go to Arkansas baseball games. Its my school and I support it

Missouri not so much

Columbia has 110,438 people (2011). You're telling me that y'all still average under 1,000 per baseball game? All those people drive back and forth to STL every time they want to watch baseball?

Note: there is no minor league team in the area

That's spread pretty damn thin.

Pro sports means very little in this region of the country. You'll find more people interested in college sports than anything else. Besides, only 4 states in the sec don't have a pro team. That's 4 out of 14 states so u can't categorize that as most of the sec.

Besides it's much harder to win a title in college sports than it is in the pros. College is truly a tale of the schools who have and those that do not.

Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina, and Mississippi do not have MLB teams. That represents 10 of the 14 SEC teams. And that represents more direct competition for attention and money (or more precisely, a lack thereof).

Missouri baseball is in Columbia's backyard, STL and KC are 2 hours away (before gameday traffic).

Seems like the "world's best baseball fans" would maybe just want to skip that long arse drive and watch their alma mater from time to time. Maybe that's expecting too much from the "true sons" in CoMo

Most of these teams have some type of affiliate for some major league team.

In the particular case of South Carolina we have the Riverdogs and the Pelicans which are affiliates of the Yankees and Braves.

The Pelicans are the Rangers, not Braves.

True, you'd think they'd have a better stadium and make baseball their #2 sport. Hell baseball falls behind their softball, wrestling and swimming teams

ETA: How in the hell did Mizzou win the Big 12 conference tourney in baseball? Did Mizzou lose a lot of players in the past year. Can't believe their record so far.
