We turned down Spurrier too and hired Mike Archer as well.

this. If LSU won that game he said he was coming to Baton Rouge.

And possibly the more likely he ended up at Alabama, given the success he would have had at LSU.

You bash our QB for no legit reason and now you're bashing Bowden?

Bowden is a complete piece of shite. See the letter he wrote to the judge pleading with him to get a rapist out of jail. And he turned his head plenty of times when his kids were getting in trouble. He didn't give a shite if his players were raping, assaulting or robbing people. Bowden didn't care if his players were illiterate and couldn't read the messages on this message board. He never went out of his way to make sure his players became productive citizens. He just wanted to win games. He was the polar opposite of the likes Joe Paterno or Eddie Robinson who were probably even better human beings than they were coaches.

Yeah, Alabama messed up under President Joab Thomas and went with Curry. See both LSU and Alabama have made mistakes.

Well, we finally got it right with Coach Stallings in 1990. And as much as I appreciate what he did, I can only imagine what Bowden would have done in his prime of the 1990s.

I completely disagree with this. Stallings is one of the classiest human beings on earth. Saban has his flaws but he never would have tolerated the shenanigans Bowden allowed at his time in Florida State. I'm sorry but winning with a scummy Barry Switzer/Bobby Bowden/Dennis Erickson type coach doesn't do it for me.

I'm not confident in the LSU admins to make the correct hire should something happen to Miles.

I don't think anything "does it for you". McElroy is a highly intelligent person and an above average qb but you bash him constantly for no reason. Quit being a little bitch all the time.

What does McElroy have to do with the fact that Bowden is a creep and I never want a person of his ilk coaching my favorite CFB team?

Bowden is one of the biggest hypocritical scumbags in the CFB coaching business. We didn't miss much not hiring him.

He may have been better than Curry. He had plenty of talent but didn't like to play defense. I was not among the Bowden worshipers. He probably wouldn't have been allowed to recruit some of the kids he got FSU to take.

Didn't Petrino turn down Auburn twice also?

Last year's SECCG MVP isn't good enough for you. One of the winningest coaches in college football isn't good enough for you. Is anybody good enough for you?

Apparently not. He's even bitching about Saban having flaws in this thread.

But at the time, in 20 yrs coaching, he had 3 - 10 win seasons. He was good and had some good records, but nothing to warrant the arrogance he had at that time to be "offended" at having to interview for the Alabama head coaching job.

From what I understand, thats not the way it went down. Bowden was contacted through back channels (boosters/former players) to gauge his interest in the job, as is pretty common practice...and was basically assured that it was his if he wanted it. He did want it, and came to Tuscaloosa at the behest of said boosters, only to arrive completely unexpected at the athletic offices. Nobody was there to interview him, nobody treated him like they would treat a guest, much less the next coach at Alabama. Come to find out, the President was not in on this "decision" to offer the job to Bowden...and Bowden was caught in the middle of a power play over the direction of the program and whose responsibility it was to make these decisions.

It wasn't arrogance on Bowden's part, it was ineptitude within the Alabama family, something I can EASILY believe...

I noticed that. It must be miserable for him knowing that no one will ever live up to his standards.

My dislike for McElroy and my disgust about Bowden is for two very different reasons. Since you brought up the SEC championship game, do you remember what Tim Tebow said after the game? He said "I just want to congratulate Alabama, Coach Saban and their players. Classy program. Classy university." When's the last time anybody talked about Florida State in those terms? A classy university and a classy program. Almost never.
