Coach Bryant may not have recieved a huge salary as HC/AD at UA, but he used his contacts very well. Bet your arse he got in at the ground level on some things and investments...

Bama concrete..WAR (I think) Construction..dog tracks..Collegiate Licensing..the list goes on..

He never does.

Thank god he isn't an LSU fan. His head would have exploded when Lee was in pick 6 mode.

It's more like a group of men which have mostly retired and anytime anyone needs something, they draw straws to find out who cuts the check. I think they like it that way so no one really runs away with it like you've seen recently with other schools. None of these guys really like it to be known how much, who, what, where, when, and why.

Corporations have also contributed large sums of money.

Lod Cook is one. Alumni Center and Hotel is named after him. Former President of Atlantic Richfield Company(ARCO). Compared to some of the other SEC schools, LSU is behind in this department. Arkansas is loaded with rich boosters who contribute.

UF should be getting a ton of money from Gatorade.

Reynolds Family, Walker Family, Tyson Family, Lindsey Family, small group of Little Rock old money.

I would not say the Waltons here lately. The older folks are dying off and the younger ones are sending a lot of scrilla to MIZ ZOU

Bryant Jr. also has construction and cement companies. I believe the cement you see in and around BDS (especially since the expansion) is from his company.

His money is from several places (dog track, banking, construction, cement, and a couple of others I can't remember)

There really is no singular "money man" for LSU. I wouldn't even characterize Lod Cook as our main guy. He's one of them, sure... but not THE man, as the thread title suggests.

At LSU, it's sort of like a cumulative effort of a lot of people.

I think it's better that way anyhow.

When there's one "money man," that person tends to throw his power around a little too much, and then trouble arises.

LSU doesn't have a long tradition of people giving to the university. It's a really short history. But, they're working on it.

LSU - not really sure???

La Tech has James Davison - was going to provide the bulk of the money to keep the Saints in New Orleans after Katrina - around 500 million

Tech also has the billionaire Wyle brothers in Dallas

I would be curious as to who the big LSU boosters are - Louisiana has a lot of oil and natural gas and some very wealthy people.

All of Bryant Junior's daughters were in my sorority - the youngest was in my pledge class and they don't live extravagantly at all but they have lots and lots of money.

There are many people that have contributed more than JB and Shaw. Don't get me wrong, he has made his share of contributions, but there are HUGE oil, timber, farming, and land interests that have done much more - just privately.
