Richt has a history of being consistently good.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Sumlin is better though. He doesn't have the history that Richt has, but I think he has better years ahead. I think Richt has reached his potential.

Not true.
Gomer Pyle didn't marry until age 82.

Yeah but he had a great singing voice.

Have a hard time giving it to CMR. Sure he has won a ton but he is also in one of the most talent rich HS states for football.
The flagship schools in Cali, Texas, and Florida have all won national titles since his arrival at UGA. UGA just can't seem to get over that hump...that falls on him. This is where a ton of UGA fans frustration comes into play.
I'd still give it to him but mainly out of default.

Sumlin is pretty good on paper, the past 2 seasons. Just curious who is really the man him or Kingsbury? He has no excuse at TAMU. KK has been his OC since 2010, that is when his best 2 years were , so far.

Bielema might actually have a better track record.

If Richt was gonna win one, wouldn't he have already done it?
Statistically speaking, no. The overwhelming majority of coaches who've won a national championship won it (or their first) between seasons 10 - 15 of their career. There are early bloomers, Meyer won his first in season 6 and Saban in season 9. There are statistical outlier, Larry Coker at Miami for example, but Richt would be right on track if he won a NC in the next 2 or 3 years.
The difference in his career vis a vis many is that Richt didn't spend time at smaller school. He's learned on the job at UGA. Which has, to be fair, been frustrating to watch at times.

then how was my original comment reaching? that is pretty much exactly my argument, UGA can't win championships with Richt, but he's still too good to get rid of
They were one play away from a championship this year.
Everyone wants to win a championship any given year. Only one can have it. What Bama has done (and the rest of the SEC during this streak) is unprecedented. And now we've added a powerhouse A&M--and that's just 14 teams.
I honestly said before this whole thing started rolling that I just wanted Bama to be a contender again--because that's about all you can do.
There is too much chance and luck involved. Injuries, other teams, polls, BCS--make no mistake Bama has needed "breaks" winning all three.
We were contending in 2008 and 2010 too . . didn't get the breaks.
But that was the point--they were contenders at the time. If you contend--and contend nearly every year--eventually you may get that break.
The playoffs change this considerably--probably easier to "earn" your way into the playoff, but I still say scheduling, luck/injury will play a huge part of it.
