I listened to Josh Pate you tube he made on ranking in March . at that time he had Ga and Tx at the top then it seemed to be he just didn’t trust any of the rest of the teams to develop into champions. Pates rationale did seem to be less based on information and more on past performance. The Steele prediction seems to be the only one solely based on current information And more in depth research….

This is a big key. Alabama and Georgia approaches roster development in a similar way. Recruit well, and retain productive players. If they retain productive players through NIL, then they go to the portal to bring in players to fill in at positions that they missed on when identifying talent, players who did not develop as expected (Peaked early, lazy, complacent, etc) or left for higher NIL packages.
Every approach by every team is still unproven, so we will all have to wait and see how the various methods play out.
But, I don't think it is particularly unfair to say Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, ND and some others still get a certain amount of edge in preseason rankings. To a certain degree the benefit of the doubt comes from earned cache from winning big. Clemson used to get it, too, but is quickly losing it, due to less than great results. Good results, but not in National Title contention results.

Yeah, you won't find it all in one place, but if you take the average of most books coming out of Vegas, you'll be ahead of any of these online talking heads. Takes a little work.

Seems like Phil Steele has the most info and not going primarily with history, but is objectively deriving a ranking.
