When your football team has had its arse kicked every year for almost a decade, a true LUSer fan will make a post about “Pom poms,” or “44-16”... or anything to keep from having to confront the reality of multiple shutout beatings.

The TV networks love showing 80,000 shakers being shook in unison but for some reason, not clear to LUSers, they don't seem to be keen on playing up a student body chanting STTDB on National TV. I also suggest knowing the difference between a “Pom Pom” and a “shaker.”

SMU cheerleader Herkie Herkimar (sp?) invented the pom pom in the late 1940's or ear 50's.

He still has the patent and gets Auburn and Alabama's money. State of Texas thanks you.

Seems unlikely, since his patents would have expired after 17 years. He may have other intellectual property rights in the poms poms that still generate royalties, but I'm not sure what those might be.

And I sat in Auburn's student section several times in the late 70s and early 80s when they would just throw out paper pom poms to the entire student section. I think Alabama had them back then, too, and I have no idea which school may have been first.

Bama fans, do you have a stash of pom poms and bring a new one to each game? Or do you bring the same one to every game?

If you bring the same on to every game, is it a new one each year or are they handed down like the cowbells?

So many unanswered questions

Answered already but there is a box of shakers at every stadium portal and they are free.

bullshite. I've been to Tuscaloosa twice and been to games vs Bama in BR

Plenty of dudes have a crimson and white pom pom hanging out their back pocket while tailgating and walking into the stadium.

Maybe that does answer the question, at the first game you grab enough for the season and carry a new one to each game? Makes sense.
